That Summerland fire was nuts, grew something like 2000 hectares in an hour and went from 50 to 5000 hectares in 3 hours. Many have said they've never seen a fire grow that fast.
As Topper said, its very dry here right now and the grass on that side of the lake and mountains is so dry all it took was a decent wind and it nearly took out the whole town.

The heatwaves in Europe have caused widespread drought and several major rivers - Rhine, Danube, Elbe - are at record low levels, causing a lot of problems. River transports are reduced or impossible, at least two nuclear powerplants have been shut down as they rely on river water as a coolant and in some areas of Czechia there is no tap water available.
