Around even? $16K isn’t a rounding error. Even if you are making $5M, you aren’t indifferent. Especially when coke is expensive. Plus cost of living is far less in Columbus for things like housing. He’ll get twice the house for the same cash. If he wants it.

All he gives up is any hope of being on a team that could win the cup….

It's Friedman.

Sources: Jason Robertson turns down contract offer from Kraken

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/so ... om-kraken/

According to multiple sources, the Seattle Kraken were given permission by Dallas to talk to Jason Robertson, and offered him approximately $15 million per year on a eight-year deal — but the offer was declined.

Neither the Stars nor the Kraken agreed to comment, nor did Robertson’s representative, Andy Scott.

It’s believed the two teams had worked out some kind of trade before the permission was granted, apparently including Seattle’s first-round pick — seventh overall in Friday’s draft.

It’s hard to say what’s next for the Stars and their 40-goal winger, who are believed to be at least $2 million apart per season. Their top contract is Mikko Rantanen at $12 million per year, and the hope was Robertson would come somewhere around that number.

Robertson is a restricted free agent as of July 1.

Could Big D use an almost $12M center?

Clearly Seattle is not a top destination if Robertson is snubbing $15M but won’t take $12M from Dallas.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Seattle really should just settle for an $11.6m near 40 goal and 102 point centre.

No trade protection on first year of this contract under the cba. Dallas could sign @ $15M without telling him where they were trading him. Not sure JR isn’t holding out for more…..

I honestly don't think Robertson is worth more than $12M.

Dallas should just let him walk to RFA and see if someone is dumb enough to sign him to an offer sheet. If they don't, then let him hold out and not play.

He will get pissed off and end up signing something short-term for less than his desired $14M when some team finally ponies up a couple months into the season. The compensation will be huge and Nil gets his win.

What I don’t understand is if he’s holding out for $14M, why Dallas doesn’t make the deal and trade him immediately after now that they know there’s a market to do so. I think he’s not signing any long term deal unless he’s traded to where he wants to be first. Destination as important as money. And in that case, it seems to me that if the deal doesn’t happen, he just signs the QO or takes Dallas to arbitration for a one year contract.

He’s going to get paid big time. He’s score 40 goals 3 times and is now entering his prime. I don’t know that he’s going to get his pick of team at the end of the day, but at least $14M will be there for him next off season. Probably more. (But only a 6 year deal)….

[edit for clarity — Robertson is not signing any long term deal with Dallas because he expects to be traded once he does. So he will only sign a long term deal with a team he’s traded to, but not any team. So holding out is dumb, he will play next season—he’s not holding out for a long term deal with Dallas, he doesn’t want to sign a long term deal now and be traded. After next season, he might sign with Dallas then because he can have a nmc attached to the deal. He doesn’t have that right for next season, a ntc cant kick in until 2027-28.]

Remind me, if Dallas matches the deal, I thought they weren’t eligible to deal him for the first year.

Ok, now that is making much more sense.
