The ship is possibly sailing for me on McTavish.

A healthy scratch in the post-season, struggling under Coach Q this year to the tune of regressing back to a minus player and a 10 point drop in production.

It could also just be the first year of a big contract slump.

I’m still taking him if EP40 goes the other way.

Some dood on twitter is suggesting that Cam Neely may want to get a 1C to play with Pasternak as E.Lindholm is not cutting it.

EP40 & M.Petey
for
E.Linholm & Big Zaddy

We get back 2 former Nucks. We do get a bit older, but 2 solid vets to help with the rebuild and we cut the Petey contract.

What should we do with our goalie situation? Do we really run the 3 headed beast, or do we trade Lankinen. He had a career worst season last year.

I put this in SKYO"s thread, as i don't see any good options, just the crazy shit is left.

Should we assume Lankinen will bounce back? Are his numbers down cuz we really sucked in front of him? Will a change in coaching style make him good again? We really struggled with Foote's system last year, and I don't know if we are changing it, our players develop enough to run his system, or if we play a defense first system and lose a lot of 2-1 games instead of 5-3 losses..

Can Lankinen be traded for a positive return? Or do we need him in case Demmer discovers another muscle/tendon to blow before the Winds of November come? (Yep, a sinking ship reference for the Gordon Lightfoot fans)

Or, fuck it. Tolopilo and some other Abby kid can play net, as we build a losing culture and get another 3rd overall pick?
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

If the Canucks are truly committed to a rebuild, I would try to trade Demko. I would even be willing to retain on it, could help getting a decent return. It would not be an ideal situation but might be the best, bad move they could make in regards to their G situation.

A 'healthy' Demko has trade value.

Lankinen has none with that contract.

Move Demko for a pick and prospect and start developing the future netminders in-house. I thought Tolopilo had more potential, but I don't see him ever becoming a starter.

I think the best case for Demko trade return is "whatever you can get" and even then I don't see why team's wouldn't balk at that contract.. LTIR isn't as exploitable as it used to be.

I suspect we'll see the odd Thatcher cameo over the next few years and that's it, but maybe if he comes back and puts in a full season we can trade him later.

If we trade him right away, yeah, stupid.

Trade him in year two then it's only a 1.5 year retention.....if it's a hell of an offer then not stupid.

A thought (a bit out there).....

When you look at the Anaheim cap situation.....

Carlsson and Gautier are both coming off of their ELC's and have had amazing years. The Ducks surprised people this year, pushed Edmonton out in 6 games, and then lost to Vegas. This is an upcoming group that has done well and developed under Coach Q. Both of those players are gonna get paid, however Anaheim only has $10M in cap space and I cannot see either of those players signing for less than $8M.

Would the Canucks be smart to consider.....

To ANA: Pettersson ($11.6M) + 2nd

To VAN: McTavish ($7M) + Granlund ($7M)

We could then flip Granlund elsewhere as a $7M contract is much easier to move.....or keep him as a veteran in the top-6 and move him later?

Hronek, Scooter, 24th OA and however many 2nd/3rd/4th make it happen to San Jose for 2nd OA

Toss in another Petersson or two if necessary.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

With the goons at the head of this organization they would repeat history with the 2nd and 3rd OA and take the Ruck twins.

They have 40M in cap space, not 10.

Their rfa list also includes mintykyov and zellwegger and hinds and they need to sign some d (Truba, Carlson, Gudas all ufas). They have some in house prospies still cooking, but there’s no way they don’t add an nhl defenseman into the rfa group they resign. So they are still going to have to make some decisions to keep the group affordable, but that decision might simply be not Max term deals for the lot.
