Edit: If you've seen the video, there's a lady in a pink jacket right behind them filming everything and then getting the hell out of there when shots were fired. Couldn't have had a better angle.

DHS says agents defended themselves: The Department of Homeland Security said the man had a handgun and approached Border Patrol officers during a targeted operation. He “violently resisted” when officers tried to disarm him, and an agent shot him in self-defense, according to DHS.

It was bound to happen - the 2nd amendment comes to a 1st amendment protest, and problems ensue. Once again, we only have the DHS side of the story at this point.

Are you saying that the agent pulls the victim's handgun off of him, or do you mean the agent pulling his own handgun? Just wanting to clarify.

The pink jacket link shows the agent pull his own gun and then the initial shot I hear is presumably that weapon. It's a bad look.

The following is not directed at you dbr (just adding that for clarification as I quoted your post).....

I want to point out a couple of observations from this video.

1. ICE agents are clearly involved in official business. They are designated officers of the law and appear to be wearing identifying equipment.

2. The victim leaves the sidewalk, walks out into traffic to film what is happening. It is fairly clear that he knows who these officers/agents are and what they are doing, and that he doesn't agree with it.
- He has NO authority to delay or control the flow of traffic, which he clearly attempts to do
- He has no business inserting him in a law enforcement operation
- He attempts to shield and remove the individual that the ICE agents are interacting with, thereby interfering with law enforcement. This was perhaps done with the best of intentions, out of concern for someone who he thinks is getting a raw deal, but he broke the law in doing that, and while I did not see him aggressively engage physically with the ICE agents, he did physically insert himself into a heated situation that was already at a medium simmer.

3. Pink Jacket stays steps off the street onto the sidewalk and stays out of it. That's what the victim should have done.

I don't condone the shooting at all, but I want to add something (at least until the dust settles on this and we get some concrete evidence/information IF we ever do).....

I have been on multiple scenes that have been escalated environments, and fortunately for me, nearly every one of those is already "controlled" by law enforcement prior to my being cleared in. But some haven't, and there have been times where I have had to blur some lines and assist officers. I can tell you from experience that when an officer is in the position of trying to detain/disarm/defend, even when multiple officers are involved, they are extremely vulnerable to any threat that can come from the bystanders surrounding the event. This puts them in a situation where they have their own (and their fellow officer's) safety to worry about, as well as the safety of any other agencies on scene, and on top of that, the safety of any bystanders that are within the danger halo of the event. People don't realize this, but every single person who is contributing to the chaos, and every person who does not back off and disperse as directed, bears responsibility for what occurs.

In this case we could be looking at a situation where the shooting officer either saw a gun, or heard someone say "gun", and he simply reacted without clearly processing it. It's not absolving him, it's just a possible "why" to the "what".

Law enforcement now operates in a world where people don't respect the rule of law, they have been indoctrinated, largely by mainstream entertainment media, to believe that the rule breakers that are operating from a place of their own morale conscience do not end up hurt and are justified in their actions. It is a world where the stories they have been told have consistently represented the young and inexperienced (children) being smarter and wiser than their senior and seasoned counterparts (parents/teachers/etc.). When the people entrusted with the safety of our society, as well as the safety of their own selves, have to navigate through situations like this, and they are pressed in on all sides by demonstrators, agitators, social media influencer's (and their wannabes), news reporting agencies, "defund the police" activists in all forms.....well shit is going to go wrong because they are human.

Whether people want to acknowledge it or not, when a situation is already approaching boiling, and there are armed individuals involved (law enforcement or otherwise), your very presence can be what heats things up the final few degrees. From the limited evidence of this video, imho, that is exactly what the victim did.

If you have the expectation that an underpaid law enforcement officer should press pause in a situation where that pause could result in him (or a uniformed brother/sister) not going home to his own family, or a bystander not seeing tomorrow, then you need to get out of your safe little bubble and get on the front line.

From the video I’ve seen it seems he is trying to assist some people who were being pepper sprayed when the ICE agents decided to jump him, and he is already pinned to the ground when they shoot him. In Sweden that’s a homicide. There was no need for lethal,force when they already had him pinned to the ground. And ten shots? Seriously?

And yes, I know, more than 1000 people are killed by law enforcement in the USA every year while Sweden only has roughly 100 homicides in total, and only one person killed by police in an average year, so it’s very different.
