Rutherford shooting himself in the ass trying to sort out the center position was just the break we needed. This is going to be air-tight Aquaproof.

Thank you Jimmy!

Seeing how Horvat is playing and just his general overall class and professionalism he was obviously the centre we should’ve kept, but even Chef was OK with trading Bo, but in hindsight he was the one we should’ve kept. But these correct decisions are not what fans like me are paid to make, it’s Jim Rutherford’s duty to make the right call, something he doesn’t seem to know how to do since arriving here. His minion Allvin as well. The whole handling or dismantling of our once prideful centre depth in Pettersson , Miller and Horvat puts to shame the handling of our once great tandem in Schneider and Luongo. Just one wrong decision after another. And that’s my worry, the poor decisions coming out of this so called great new regime in Allvin and Rutherford, fucking overrated if you ask me.

For the first time in a long time, I'm confident in saying this. :)
I just worry that even with this cold hard fact of how the western conference is shaping up to look over the next decade our ownership is completely ignoring this. It doesn’t matter to them, they lack the foresight, or simply just don’t give a shit.
While I fully agree with a immediate rebuild, the talking heads keep saying Canucks will wait for Hughes to tell them if & when he's ready to move on.
If November plays out as i suspect, then there will be no reason to delay the inevitable.
They need to sit down with Quinn and have that discussion ASAP.
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it

Yeah, that series of blunders really set us up for a skid to the bottom of the standings. If Francesco Aquilini vetoes a Hughes trade as I expect him to, the table for a rebuild is set.

Topper for years has been saying the Aquilini ownership is a real estate play.

Ryan Smith and what he is doing in Utah has crushed in a little over a year what FA & the boyz have done in 20.

AIG is about real estate and development with values in the billions.

It's just not about the Canucks (and us) for these guys.

It's about portfolios and money....

Holy fuck. Take some uppers boys before the negativity makes y’all commit mass suicide!

When the team is battling injuries to top players like now, this is a .500 hockey team that struggles, but still plays 500 hockey.

When healthy, they are a playoff team. The team has already used 30 skaters FFS! The fact they are hovering around 500 and have 6-7 AHL’rs taking regular shifts is amazing.

They are 2 centers away from being a contending team.

No need to blow it up and rebuild it for 10 years.

You guys need to stop listening to the radio and never read Canucks Army, and then you too can see the light.

Now with that said, what needs to happen is the ownership group needs to stop meddling. The owners are super fans, not hockey guys, and are heavily influenced by the media — who are also a group of idiots.

I don’t know, Mad. Maybe being tied 3rd overall with the third worst record in the league after 15 games has some of us on edge???

Fair enough. But even those who only want to see doom and gloom should keep it in perspective.

Abbotsford played with 15 regulars out of the lineup and finished the game on an Ebug… it’s been the worst injury filled start in team history, and that should be taken into account.

Heck, a few of those games when Hughes was out, I don’t think we had a legal ‘veteran count’ for a preseason lineup.

Perspective.

Who said rebuild for ten years? And they need 2 centres and a play driving winger, maybe 2 of them. So we are looking at probably 4 top 9 forwards. They don't have much capital to acquire these players.

Gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one Chef.

At the time Horvat was looking to be exactly what he is now: A 30G/60P center who excels in the faceoff circle and plays a 200 foot game with 10 or so of his goals coming on the PP. He was not showing himself to be a guy who made his wingers better, at least not at a 1C level.

Miller was showing himself to be the same player, but 20 points more productive, and actually capable of carrying his line and driving play.

JT signed for the $500K less than Horvat was asking (and ultimately got from the Islanders.

That was probably the best contract decision they have made since taking the reins here.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Rutherford lowballed Bo from his first negotiations that fall with a number starting with a 5 annually. Naturally he was pissed off. If the management had been smart and negotiated in good faith, they likely could have gotten him at 7 x 7.

Imagine Peter and Quinn at 8 year 72-80 million dollar contracts? SOMEONE on THIS HERE MESSAGE board TOLD people several times, that this was the play. We would have them both LOCKED DOWN for FOUR MORE YEARS. No 11.6, no threat of Hughes wanting to bounce. But....... but..... Tanner Pearson needed a new deal.

On a team with, I don't know, maybe stronger leadership coming from somewhere else, or a different culture, or a different coach, or a differently constituted young Swedish centre, Miller probably is the better value. But on the Canucks team they had at that point, Horvat was worth $500K more.

There is a tendency to treat injuries like they are entirely a matter of bad luck, and sure, there is certainly a random component. But at the NHL level, durability (or situational awareness, or both) is part of the athletic skill set.

It's kind of like shooting percentage: over the short term it is subject to statistical anomalies, but over the long term, genuine snipers will have a higher percentage than guys who throw it in the general direction of the net and hope. (Not to say that throwing it on net an hoping isn't sometimes the best play available.)

The Canucks have some less robustly constructed people at the top of their talent pool, and at least one whose "head on a swivel" skills are below professional standard. Over the course of season, they should expect to lose more man-games to injury.
