Milford was a clown. Tiger and Jerry Butthair for 700 goals. He should have been shot.

Milford was a loser.

Tiger Williams is a legend. Derlago was a fall down drunk. Had to be banned from a well known bar in town by his GM.

Garbage post. I'm friends with a few of his cousins. Amazing athletes and people one and all. I could tell you a few stories about Tiger. Everyone drank and did drugs back in the day but you shit on Vaive and Derlago because Milford came into the dressing room after you got skullet tossed by Gillis and Holland and you guys had the same hairlines and you got to sit on his knee and pull a quarter out of his ear.

Tiger and the old man were good pals, he loved that establishment at Powell and Main and both were members of the north shore winter club and played old timers hockey together. Derlago, was a hardcore drunk, couldn’t handle his booze. He was well on his way to Lupulville, trust me, he was the reason Milford made Powell and Main off limits

They were all pisstanks. Milford was like Lou Grant to you with long fingers and some lotion. Hexwore a robe and you sat on his knee. Tha trade was an abortion. Tiger became the 6th toughest guy on the team and rode his stick.

So is the idea then to trade a bunch of former GM's (some posthumously) in order to get the best management team we can possibly get?

Because that seems like the only way that all this Benning vs Gillis vs Burke vs Nonis vs Quinn vs etc....is actually topical in this here thread.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Best trade in canuck history - Burke’s Sedin coup

Worst trade in Canuck history - Jack Gordon’s Neely debacle

Best centre trade in Canuck history - Benning landing on Miller

Best D-man trade in Canuck history - Burke landing Jovanvski

Best goalie trade in Canuck history - Nonis stealing Luongo

Worst trade in Canuck history - Jack Gordon’s Neely debacle
Worst trade in Canuck history - Vancouver Canucks acquire Adam Clendening; Chicago Blackhawks acquire Gustav Forsling

The Neely trade carries additional emotional resonance on this board because Neely was the type of player most of the posters here like to cheer for and always wish we had, but at least the Canucks got some value back on that one.

Compounding the Forsling/Clendening error with an honourable mention in worst-trades-in-Canucks-history, Clendening, along with Bonino and a draft pick that would would turn into NHL regular Filip Gustavson, was in turn exchanged for Brandon Sutter (a player whose perceived value was grossly inflated by the name on his sweater) and a draft pick that would turn into Will Lockwood, who never became an NHL regular.

So the whole concatenation became: a defenceman who went on to win 2 Stanley Cups (so far), and centre who went on to win 2 Stanley Cups, and a goalie who has played 5 NHL seasons so far (2nd best save% in the League in '22-'23), for a centre who was brought in to provide grit and leadership and provided neither (nor any Stanley Cups, nor any future trade value).

Compared with that, an exciting power forward who would win no Stanley Cups as a player in exchange for a competent centre who would return future trade value is a minor mistake.

Then after toiling 3 years in the bowels of Chicago’s farm system the Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Gustav Forsling from the Chicago Blackhawks on June 24, 2019, as part of a trade. In exchange for Forsling and goaltender Anton Forsberg, the Blackhawks received defenseman Calvin de Haan and forward Aleksi Saarela. Then two years later in 2021 the Hurricane had seen enough of Forsling and waived him where the Panthers claimed him off the wire, seven years later from when the Canucks had drafted him in 2014.

And Cam Neely hadn't shown anything special in three years prior to trading him away, either -- otherwise, he wouldn't have been available at that price. People lamenting the Neely trade are disappointed over what he became, not what the Canucks gave up in the prior 3 seasons.

So clearly, the fan standard for worst trades encompasses what the players given up would go on to accomplish with their new clubs.
