You always here “fundamentals” first and foremost when it comes to their thoughts on goalies on the farm and it seems the scouts in general ain’t blown away by Silovs when it comes to“fundamentals”.
Good post...

Would be curious if Megs feels the same way, but from watching Silvos the past 2 seasons in Abby I didn't get the feeling that he was close to being NHL ready...

One thing I think we can all agree on is management around the league lean heavily on their director of Goalie Development or goalie coaches when it comes to goaltenders and in Clark the Nucks have one of the best in the buisness....

Take care...

Similar to forwards that can put up points in the AHL, but not make the jump against better competition.

One less thing for you to shit up the boards about.

It may turn out that Demko won’t stay healthy, the Canucks miss the playoffs by a couple points and the kid is solid in Pittsburg.
Even if Silovs never becomes a starter, the Canucks could have carried three goalies, held on to their current third best goalie as insurance and gotten a similar return at a later point this season.
Since the return was only a 4th in two years and a player who is trending toward being a bust, it does nothing to help the club this season, so why rush the trade?
Silovs was certainly clutch internationally and in Abby.
Great in tight and still very young for a goalie who was working on his tracking and distance game.
If he fixed that, which he looked much better at during the Abby playoff run, he could become a starter with a history of rising to the occasion.
It’s a mistake right now for rushing the trade for what is a presently unhelpful return and disregarding the benefit of having Demko insurance.
At minimum, Silovs should have been carried as a third goalie until he could be part of a package to bring a current NHL player in return, and Demko had shown he could stay healthy for 20 games.
Since it is presently an unhelpful return, the trade is a mistake right now, and we’ll see how big a mistake this trade becomes later if Silov’s actually turns out to be a cheap solid backup or a starter. It’s not like the Canucks couldn’t have used Lankinen’s or Demko’s salary to pay a 2C if he does.
Teams don't carry three goalies very often. Almost never. They are giving the kid a chance elsewhere:

I always liked King Arturs, too bad we couldn't keep him. We all saw the writing on the wall though, JR even said as much. They even drafted a new Russian backstop, whom them seem really high on. Just feels like Silovs is a guy we drafted, developed all these years and just when it looks like he's on the cusp of being NHL rdy, we have to trade him for a minimal return.

If it were my call, I would have kept King Arturs and trade one of the other 2 guys. He's young, cheap and looks like one of those guys who can step up his game when it matters most. I think he can become like a Jaro Halak or another Arturs we have seen b4 (Archie Irbe).

I'm not sure about the season after next too. We'll have like $13M allocated to goaltending in Demmer and Blankinen. Not sure that's the best utilization of cap space. If we're going to pay Demmer $8.5M on par with the top guys in the league, ideally we want him to be a workhorse goalie playing like 50-60 games. I'm not sure Demmer can handle that workload nor would I want to push him to that number. To get a guy to play the remainder of the games, it would be nice to have a cheap backup or young guy making like under $2M. With Blankinen coming in @ $4.5M, that's a bit much.

Looking back, maybe we should have just kept a guy like Desmith. Sure, he's not as good as Blankinen, but he's a servicable backup and cheap. We could have avoided this whole situation, kept Silovs and if we lose Desmith on waivers, it'd be who cares.

Oh well, just glad we didn't trade Silovs to the Oil. If he stands on his head and finally helps the Oil when a Cup, we wouldn't hear the end of it. Podz scored 8G in the reg season, scored 3G in the playoffs and did have some good moments last year and ppl kept saying we should have kept him.

Good luck to King Arturs! I wish him all the best, just not when he's playing us. :?

We could not keep DeSmith. The way we treated him after he recovered from his injury during the Edmonton series. We benched him and let Silovs keep playing, even though the Oilers had clearly figured Silovs out. DeSmith was not prepared to come back. We banked on Silovs being the real deal and were prepared to let him back up Demko. But alas Demko developed his off season problems forcing us to look for a serviceable guy to split the net with Silovs. Lankinen produced better than anyone could have hoped for and Silovs shit the bed. He wrote his own story.
