Yeah, several shockers today...
- they actually made a selection with the pick
- Canadian
- skipped on a small skilled Swede who dropped down to them
- centre
- right handed

Nice to go against the grain. Sounds exactly what we need, just hope he hits.

I made it to pick 15 then bowed out. Seems like a decent pick, but we are years away from knowing. It’s weird how this management advertises who they are going to take before the draft and actually take that player. They did the same thing with Willander. Whatever happened to good old deception? Both Willander and Cootes were rated on average a little lower and were small reaches, so maybe management feels it is safe and no one would grab their guy if they publicly showed interest. I approve of taking a reach over taking a falling asset, Pod fell into their laps and was rated much higher, but they would have been better off doing a little reach for Boldy or Caufield.

Say what you will about this regime but one thing they seem to have done well is find gems in later rounds (D.Petey, Kuds, Flame's Brzustewicz, Mynio, etc..). Tho none have really hit yet it's a promising enough group to indicate some draft success. Now just need to bring that good mojo to tomorrow toward the forward group.

Pods was a Benning pick. My feeling was they didn't want to go small again with Caufield and create a team of smurfs with Petey and Quinn already in the fold. Just goes to show it's best to put the brain away, dumb it down and go BPA every time. Tho I suppose you can say Pods was BPA given where he ranked for most of the year before falling.

I wonder if BPA was the MO today. Hope so.

Reminds me of Kesler.
Cootes says he models his game after Brayden Point. If he becomes our version of Point, we should be happy.

It will just likely take a year or two realize that player.

Hard to say. He says he models his game after Brayden Point. Can't go wrong with that can we?

That would be the best possible outcome after some of the other comparisons.

Hope they go back to the old draft format, but find a happy medium. Maybe a strict limit to four people at each table and on stage, and a strict time limit to make a pick. If the team goes overtime or over personnel it costs the team their last pick in the draft, something like that to motivate to keep things moving. Today’s zoom chats while looking at the back of each player were weird and awkward. Lots to improve if they want to keep this decentralized format.

Height and weight shouldn’t be the deciding factor when evaluating 18 year olds, IMHO. For me it’s IQ, character, compete level, dedication, skating, skill set, is he coachable, is he a headcase, does he go to the dirty areas or prefer the sanctity of the perimeter? Height and weight whether he drops his mitts is at the bottom of the list. We’ve seen it time and time again, Smurfs proving everyone wrong, and big goons busting. Funny thing is, Victor Eklund has a high IQ, has character, has a high energy and compete level, goes to the dirty areas, and has a high end skill set but yet, because he’s Swedish, not tall and is slight, he fell to the 16th pick. He’s a player where teams who passed on him may, over time, wish they hadn’t. His brother Williams stats have been on the incline with every season he’s put in in the NHL. Victor Eklund was one of the more impressive players I saw at the WJC’s. Liked his dog on a bone attack style, definitely not afraid of the dirty areas, in fact reminded me of Garland. William plays similarly.

Buffalo Sabres D

Dahlin - LS - 6’-3” - 204 lbs
Power - LS - 6’-6” - 226 lbs
Samuelsson - LS - 6’-4” - 227 lbs
Byram - LS - 6’-1” - 205 lbs
Kesselring - RS - 6’-5” - 215 lbs
Mrtka - RS - 6’-6” - 207 lbs
Bernard Docker - RS - 6’-1” - 198 lbs
Clifton - RS - 5’-11” - 195 lbs

That’s a tall ass D-core. You can see why the Sabres want to move LS Byram. Keep hearing a few media Jack asses saying the Canucks are still interested in his services as a stop gap measure on the left side top pairing for “if” Quinn Hughes decides to go to UFA. Apparently, Byram would like to play back home in Vancouver.

Chef likes bold moves, trade Hughes to Jersey for an insane package and acquire Byram at the same time. Getterdun, why wait. Trade Petey for Barzal!

Wonder if this is another Clark pick?

If so, I’ll feel better about spending a 2nd on the kid.

Still, a little short for a Clark pick. Only 6’1”.

Hargraves is happy drafting a goalie every year. This Russian is highly rated.

I think I got into a dust up last night. Pretty good race track around my left eye

Corny if I scratch a check can we get Gohmert back where he belongs. You might think I''m crazy. He ran the place and was a highly underrated as a poster with his thoughts and experience were top notch.

Me and the lab are Splitting the C Pap machine. He sounds like Archie Bunker while he's reclined in his seat. Dumb as me waiting for the wife to come home.

WE NEED MICKEY107
