Wouldn't blame him - but I'm guessing there's other (cough ep40 cough) issues that made his decision easier.
Media would be on the list.
But not at the top of the list.

They don’t need no stinking career coach that follows fair winds to the next job but never had any connection to the Canucks. They need a coaching staff that bleeds Canucks. Hire one eye Malhotra as head coach and make him wear a pirate patch for effect. His defensive coach should be old “I gave my left nut for this team and every other part of my body” Sami Salo. Wheel him on the ice in a wheelchair, once again for effect. Skills coach, Mason Raymond daily wearing a back brace to work. Goalie coach, Dan Cloutier, moving around with the aid of robotic leg braces and two canes, even if he doesn’t need them. Now that’s an inspirational coaching staff worth having.

Rutherford did have some nice things to say about him. He certainly isn't out of the mix.

Yes, Cousin, oh yes...

Raisin only wants to work with his former teams and staff. Sullivan would already be the new coach if he didn't want to stay on the East coast.

You know it.

Yep - Club statement:
“After a very long and thorough process, unfortunately Rick has decided to leave the Vancouver Canucks,” said president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford. “This is very disappointing news, but we respect Rick’s decision to move to a new chapter in his hockey career. We did everything in our power to keep him, but at the end of the day Rick felt he needed a change. He is a good friend, a good coach, and we can’t thank him enough for all he did for our organization. Toc is a stand-up guy, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Two good American boys as well. Those two are right in the Geezer's wheelhouse.

By the way, if anyone missed today's press conference, Rutherford confirmed that the holdup with Willander is about money.

Alex Burrows was an assistant coach in Mon’real from 2021 to 2024…just saying.

“We’ve slayed the dragon!”

Let’s do some more slaying’ folks. Bring the swordsmen home now. Hank and Dank and the Burr in their side just whipping it up behind the bench. Getterdun.

Oh, and fuck you Elias Pettersson, fuck you J.T. Miller and fuck you Rick a Tocchet and your anglicized last name ya god damned mangiacake…and fuck you for breaking your spaghetti in half, WTF, mamma Mia!!!

Mark Madryga on the morning news was speculating that Jon Cooper might not be long for Tampa Bay. He’s from Prince Rupert. Don’t know where the speculation of him leaving Tampa comes from, but he would be a pretty awesome choice. Might be worth waiting for their playoffs to end to see what happens.

1. Jon Cooper
2. Manny Malhotra

I'm normally a pretty optimistic poster - but jeez, just knowing the Canuck's luck these days:

- They wait for Jon Cooper to get let go, to make a pitch for him. The Geezer sends the wrong paperwork to Tampa Bay, and hire Barry Melrose instead by mistake.

- Cooper goes to Boston. They win a cup. Canucks get relegated to the AHL in a surprise decision by Gary Bettman just prior to his retirement.

- Aqualini in all his wisdom, move the new PWHL team to Roger's arena, hire an all Swedish coaching team/management and both the Canucks teams play in Abbotsford for the 25/26 season.

While I think Tocchet not re-signing is pretty telling about the state of the club I think Maholtra taking over is the logical move and not that big of a deal. The bigger issue is our centers. If they don't have efficient centers for the top 2 lines it doesn't matter who's coaching.
