Just Not ready

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Incidentally, the stock I have in SAAB seems to be doing quite well at the moment. :)
How close is the Super Gripen to being a flying 9-3 though?

Buy the jets from the Chinese or Iran. And chip off some for Greenland. Military spending needs to be upped to 10 %. Recruit the latest and greatest mercenary pricks you can.....perhaps former CIA or Blackwater types. There's lots of mean fucks we can put to the front of the lineup for immigration. Tear up every application south of the border. Sorry Tangster maybe next time.

Do we want to rely on the US for spare parts? They don't seem to be a reliable ally anymore.

Portugal has already made a decision to move away from F-35s.

If Canada were to move away from the F-35, who has drones to buy off the shelf that, given the wobbly status of the existing F-18's, are ready to go now that are not US sourced? Iran? LOL

For fuck's sake, it was early 1980's that Canada got it's first F-18's. The one with the wet noodle tails that had to be retrofitted after delivery.

Trump has two years, midterms, he's neutered.

When is Carney going to speak to Canadians?

He has spoken to Liberals, he is off to France and the UK to speak with leaders of those countries.

He has yet to sitdown with Canadian journalists.

That's the big question isn't it? Is Trump a one-off or is this the general direction America is going? With the MAGA wing taking over the Republican party I'd rather not take the chance. It's better for us to become more independent anyways.

Drone technology is cheap compared with fighter jets. It will be commoditised soon enough. There's lots of countries developing them and perhaps we should develop our own industry as well. Canada first, right!

Is SAAB Chinese now?
Uhm... no. SAAB is still, as it has always been, mainly building aircraft, and it's a Swedish company.

They did have a car division, which they sadly sold off to GM, who drove it into the ground. After the bankruptcy in 2011 GM somehow managed to prevent the sale of the remnants as a whole package, so parts of the patents and blueprints were sold to a Chinese company (who had wanted to buy the whole package) while other patents and the main factories were sold to a newly formed Swedish company, NEVS, who intended to build electric cars based on the SAAB platform. NEVS never really got off the ground and in 2023 they sold off the factory in Trollhättan to a Swedish buyer while the blueprints and their concept cars (Emily and SANGO) were sold to EV Electra (the CEO of which is called Jihad Mohammad, I kid you not) who plans to start making cars in Turkey. Somewhere between the creation of NEVS and its demise the Chinese company Evergrande bought 80% of the shares. So, to some extent, the smoldering ruins of the SAAB Automobile division ended up (at least temporarily) in Chinese hands, but the SAAB brand belongs to the mother company and was never included in any of the post bankruptcy deals of the automobile company. So no, there have never been any Chinese SAABs, but two different Chinese companies have bought parts of the technology used in those cars.

SAAB today is focusing on the defence industry, and with the acquisition of Kockums (naval industry, warships, speedboats, submarines, torpedoes), Bofors (artillery, howitzers, munition, missiles, antitank weapons) and Ericsson Microwave Solutions (radar, surveillance, communication) they have pretty much the full package. https://www.saab.com/products

Since Sweden has been a neutral country for the past two hundred years, until we joined NATO in 2024, there has been a strategic decision that we need a strong domestic defence industry to produce our own weapons, so that we do not become dependent on deliveries from abroad that could jeopardize our neutrality and sovereignty.

Apart from SAAB there are also two subsidiaries to the British BAE Systems, BAE Systems Bofors that produces howitzers, grenade launchers and the self moving ARCHER artillery system, and BAE Systems Hägglunds, which produces the very popular combat vehicle CV90 and other tracked vehicles. These two companies used to be fully Swedish owned, but after the cold war ended we became more relaxed about this whole military thing and stupidly let the British buy them. Production and development is still located in Sweden though. And Hägglunds have bought the name rights to Hägglunds Arena where Modo plays. Used to be Fjällräven Arena, so they've gone from backpacks to combat vehicles.

Carney is losing the CBC and the Globe and Mail.

When asked about what assets he placed in the blind trust to ensure he has no conflicts of interest as PM he lashed out at the reporters.

He'll be killed in debate.

Also admits the industrial carbon tax will stay in place because "in ten years time, the Americans may also have one."

Please, keep putting a microphone in front of him.

No I'll will, but if Carney were to look inside himself, as the man with the extensive resume in finance and negotiation, he would know the F-35 contract carried a hefty escape cost rumoured to be in the $5B to $8B range..

I don't think so...

The Conservatives made a blunder when they promised to eliminate the industrial carbon tax, something even the biggest poluters do not support...
This seems like a pretty major miscalculation on Poilievre's part. Canadians still support climate action, especially in the regions of the country like Ontario, B.C. and Quebec where Conservatives need to win seats, and they’re probably happier to see large industries do the heavy lifting than themselves. Even the industries that pay the tax are mostly happy with it. In an open letter to provincial environment ministers back in October, industry groups and major companies in the cement, steel and clean energy sectors endorsed the policy and suggested some ways to improve upon it. “Industrial carbon markets are the most flexible and cost-effective way to incentivize industry to systematically reduce emissions,” their letter said.
https://www.nationalobserver.com/2025/0 ... -poilievre

And a recent Angus Reid poll has found the Liberals have moved into majority territory...
Conservatives Crumble: Liberals surge past CPC into majority territory,
Carney has met the rules regarding placing his assets in a blind trust, that's all I need to know...

Not sure why anyone would think a very short dicussion about PP's employment history and asset portfolio vs a very long discussion about Carney's employment history and asset portfolio would favor PP?

How stupid is Carney? Lets not find out.
