Politcal Memes, etc

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Time zones are funny.

Right now it’s almost 10 pm in Sweden. It’s almost 4 pm in Montreal and in Washington DC it’s September 1938.

A nice opening for China
South Africa has officially banned all American businesses from operating within its borders and halted mineral exports to the U.S. 🇿🇦🇺🇸
This decision comes just days after Donald Trump announced a complete withdrawal of U.S. funding and USAID support to South Africa. 🥶
In response, the South African government made it clear to Trump that the U.S. relies heavily on African minerals. They firmly stated that if he views Africa as nothing more than a recipient of aid, he should seek resources elsewhere—because Africa is done tolerating disrespect and disregard from Western powers. 🌍💪
With the U.S. generating over $25 billion in profits from South Africa annually, this move is expected to have significant economic repercussions for both nations. 😩

Not sure on SA, but most of Africa's mineral output has been China aligned for several years.

Did any of you realize that Canada's Teck has a large Chinese ownership? Bask when Teck bought the coal mining company, Fording Coal (several mine around Sparwood BC), the deal nearly broke Teck. Their share price dropped to $5. China bailed them out. Interestingly, Teck just sold off that coal division to Glencore so that Chinese ownership is more concentrated in the metal mines.

I think I mentioned before that I attended a 2 day Seminar on strategic minerals. One interesting speaker was from the US State Dept who spoke about this global search to lock up resources between China, Russia and the US. It was easier to do on the political level than the corporate and lesser so project scale.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

SA would be China aligned as well - https://wits.worldbank.org/CountryProfi ... 6_Minerals

And as 'easy' as it might be to lock up resources on a political level, I'm guessing it's just as easy to unlock them.

The U.S. Forest Service will fire roughly 3,400 federal employees across every level of the agency beginning Thursday, according to two people familiar with the plans.

This would also reduce the agency’s workforce — a total of 35,000 employees — by about 10 percent, potentially making it harder for the federal government to address increasingly intense wildfires and manage millions of acres of federal forests and grasslands.

Are you suggesting that by "actual weapons" Garcia means something other than "actual weapons"?

Are you suggesting that Garcia is not dangerous, but merely a nincompoop?

Are you suggesting that Garcia should not be locked up?
