Peak Demko was a better goalie than peak Luongo, and a better team asset.

When I read that, I don't quite understand why he left then.....other than not feeling prioritized over a talent like Guentzel.

Money? Same same.

Term? Same at the end.

City vibe? Loved it.

Contract negotiations? WTF do you expect, that they'd open the vault?

Coaching staff? Very impressed.

Teammates and locker room? Crickets.

I dunno. I think Luongo's peak was prior to 2011, and he carried some pretty shitty teams during those years.

Demko has had last season and the Edmonton bubble.....he's played 55 or more games exactly once and has one playoff run to his name where he came in in relief of Markstrom.

Gotta go with Luongo.

Interesting comments on Gonchar. I noted a while back that he appeared less invoked on site this season.

This is a step-back season. After the Edmonton game, I was hoping it was a corner-turned. Nope. A little bit of residual mojo last night, but saw a lot of the same things we’ve seen too many times this season.

I don’t know if it will be cured by shipping out Miller, Petey or Hughes, firing all the coaches and everyone in the organization. I don’t think the core is that far away, but if everything went right last season, pretty much everything not named Hughes has gone wrong.

Silver linings, perhaps, but this may be a chance for management to keep the picks, make a mid-to-high pick in the first round, and use the offseason to reset.

In that case, if they want to dump Miller for more future pieces, okay but I can’t imagine too many teams hunting for Miller that he would waive to go to and have the pieces for that.

Management is in a pickle regarding trades, the offers are weak for Miller and won’t get better until closer to the deadline but can they wait that long? All the while the Boeser situation gets more pressing as his premium softens the closer he gets to UFA status. Either make up your mind and sign him, if not, trade him sooner than later. I’m starting to lose my trust in this mgmt group.

It’s a complete re-tool season, treat it as such.

I would say Boeser gets dealt at the deadline, while they wait on Miller till the offseason unless a team makes them an offer they can't refuse. Pick up a 1st/2nd-round pick and/or prospect for Boeser, see what deal management can make with Miller before the draft or FA season, and spend the summer with a harsh re-examination of the team, the staff and changes to their play systems and tactics. Bring up Lekk full-time after Boeser gets traded to get him reps to prepare for next season.

Next season (hopefully) we'll have Willander in the fold and ready to contribute and we'll see who from the Abby blueline can supplant the likes of Juulsen, Friedman, Desharnais and Forbort. Management tried boosting the blueline on the cheap last summer and it played a big part in how this team has done this year. Time to reflect and build it back better.

Im not sure if someone already pointed it out but its been rumoured/confirmed/speculated/reported by Kypreos that there has been an altercation between Miller and Tocchet in the past few days which has accelerated the team to move JT

Sad statement of where this team is at this year, but I find myself perusing draft scouting reports and rankings. We shouldn't give a fuck about who's available in the first round if this team built on last year, yet here we are.

Just make this season a blip, and make it count long-term. Does it extend the team's window of contention in that event? I don't want to see this team drafting any higher than 24th for the near future.

My concern is that last year was the blip and that management actually prefers this low event slog

Last year was a blip in a few senses…..

1. We had a healthy and dialled in Demko for a full season. We haven’t had that before.

2. You had full buy-in throughout the roster to Toccey-Hockey. That was led by Miller, Boeser, and Hughes.

3. We scored at will through the first half.

4. The reinforcing of the blueline by adding Zadorov in December made a big difference to how ice-time was distributed. He was mobile and strong, and could actually make a pass.

5. Cole was a veteran anchor in the 3rd pairing. Tough, reliable, knew his role. Guys like that are understated in their importance to successful campaigns. He was replaced with Desharnais…..one is not like the other.

6. Hughes broke the fuck out. We knew what he was, but he really showed it last year.

7. Early season chemistry that saw our top two lines being scoring threats. This was matchup hell for opponents and resulted in serious mismatches for Garland, Blueger, and Joshua.

8. No injuries of note.

We went into the season with the expectation that the team would be either a W/C team or maybe 3rd in the division. Management was right to shoot their shot because things were going so right. Came close but ultimately the injury bug bit…..and has continued to do so.

Adversity is a good thing for a team to go through. It lets you see what you have.

The writing is now on the wall in big bold neon: THIS TEAM IS NOT A CONTENDER.

Here's something to bend your noodle Mëds....

They played their best before Zadorov joined them. Once he and then Lindy arrived they became ever increasingly more and more mediocre until they reached peak mediocrity at the start of the playoffs...only THEN started to re-ascend again until Shelovs went full Luongo and totally gifted the coilers their jam (not jelly)

Imagine what could've been had we wiped McFag and the German out of the show? I think the world would be a drastically more awesome place right now.
