Hindsight being what it is I think we can safely say the Canucks management and whom ever was in the decision making for the D really blew it.
They must have known the strengths and weaknesses of the team and tried to fill in the wholes with signings. Myers is looking like they may have to add a sweetener to unload his contract (if they can move it). That $3M can be better spent. Even hoglander should be moved for a pick in the off season to free up space.
I just hope they don’t do anything stupid just to make the playoffs as that seems to be a pipe dream.
How many years and counting is it for us fans?

Myers was fine last year as a 4/5. He would be fine as a 5/6.....and with an increased cap he's no terribly overpaid. Right now he's deployed as a #2 and trying to play like he deserves to be there.....he doesn't.2Fingers wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 7:39 pm Hindsight being what it is I think we can safely say the Canucks management and whom ever was in the decision making for the D really blew it.

That being said, there was no plan for a 2nd pairing. Myers, Soucy, Juulsen, Friedman, Brannstrom, Forbert.....on their best day, none of those guys is better than a #5. I suppose Soucy can be a serviceable #4 with the right partner. We were always one injury away from having 83% of our blueline being comprised of bottom pairing players.
The idiot pundits, who say that the Canucks aren't worried about a D coming back in any potential Miller or Pettersson trade because the blueline will fix itself once Hronek returns, are delusional.
If the Canucks can get Cozens and Byram back for Petey, they should do that even if it costs a sweetener.

Canuck Twitter now calling for Tocchets head, there’s no rest for the restless in Canuck fandom.
The season is a write off, find the problem areas and fix it with a patient, well thought out plan, ffs.

Agree this coaching carousel is becoming very oileresque. The season is a write off, ship out the problem children, identify the core you want to move forward with and do a mini rebuild.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 8:06 am Canuck Twitter now calling for Tocchets head, there’s no rest for the restless in Canuck fandom.

In a wild card spot at exactly the halfway point of the season with a 0.561 point percentage. The season is hardly a write-off.theman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 8:14 amAgree this coaching carousel is becoming very oileresque. Management DOES have to fix the roster issues. I don’t care that we have not once seen our complete roster deployed at the same time for a game this year…..something is off in the mix, and we’ve heard enough reasons, regardless how exaggerated, to know it won’t solve itself.
Also, the blackhole that is our second pairing on the blueline needs filling. Injuries to Hronek and Hughes didn’t magically uncover something that nobody saw, rather they just exposed it with a spotlight.
The right move or two can easily salvage this season.
I heard the pundits talking last night on some SN show about the roster construction of Stanley Cup winning teams. They were using Tampa as an example and pointed to the need to have contributing depth. Went on to say that for most top teams what one finds is that their top lines and top pairings are often a wash. Left to themselves they cancel each other out in terms of production. What tips the scales is the contributions from the bottom-6 and bottom-4. Your 3rd and 4th lines can either put you over the top on the scoreboard, or they can do an outstanding job of shutting down the opposing top lines. Your bottom-4 need to be effective on special teams, and have the ability to get the puck transitioned out of the zone. If by some miracle you have a 2nd pairing that can also drive some offense, that’s gravy.
Based on that, I’d say the real problems with this team is obvious. Our top-6 isn’t producing like they were last year, and our bottom-4 is horrid.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
I watched the Canes game…..his first game back. He tried to drive play a couple times, but the weaknesses in his game were what ended up being on display. Weak skating, easily pushed around, can’t fight through traffic.
The overpayment on this guy is insane. It was always the reason that I didn’t want the Canucks building around him. Everyone loves to point to his career PPG numbers, and they love to say that his 102 point season is what we have…..but how many players have we seen in this league bust out with a couple of massive seasons and then the rest of their career they produce well below that bar?
Elias Pettersson as an $8.5M winger who pots 80-90 points a season while playing with a complimentary someone who costs the same or more I will take all day long.
Ellie Perimttersson as a line carrying, team leading, lunch pin 1C…..I’ve never seen it.
