Dems are branding Trump as low-energy, saying he has only done 1.5 events per week for the last 6 weeks. That he's hardly even running a campaign.
Meanwhile this week Kamala has scheduled 6 events in 6 states.
Hence Trump's press conference to get back in the spotlight.
I think Trump's presser wasn't to response to "low energy," but to highlight the dichotomy between him and Harris w/r/t answering media questions.
Harris didn't have to campaign for the nomination, and she's banking on people grafting their own beliefs on to what she believes, which is why she's been relatively quiet about what she wants to do with the Presidency. Trump either wants to draw her out or to change the moderate and non-partisan's frame such that they read "bad" into the lack of information from Harris herself. I suspect Trump surrogates will be ramping up many attacks against her prior positions and statements to flush her out to defend or repudiate them. If it is possible to campaign for President of the United States without answering questions about how you'd do the job, well, that's a pretty strange way to "preserve democracy...."
The lack of content coming from the Harris campaign is so absurd I think that even the non-state state media will begin to press a bit on this. So far, all of her support is "I'm not Trump and I'm not Biden either!" But who are you?
The Dem attempt at branding Trump was a tit for tat at the Trump leaning media that had taken to a daily score card of Kamala's avoidance of the media. News shows were opening with a sign similar to an Lost Time Incident sign at many businesses, detailing the # of days Kamala had avoided the press's questioning.
As UW noted, much of the reason for Trump holding the press conference, I believe on 2 day's notice, was to add spotlight to Kamala's aversion to the press.
It is no different than the Dem's push back on Walz lies about his military service where pundits and Dem politicians, Pelosi was one, asked if Vance had served in combat. Vance never claimed to serve in combat, Walz has claimed he served in combat. Vance did however serve in Iraq when it was deemed a combat zone. No, he was never near any fighting, but he also has never claimed to have been. Walz on the other hand has been caught on video claiming he carried weapons into combat.
Yesterday the left media was calling Vance a stalker endangering the safe space of a woman for walking over to Kamala's press corp on the tarmac of the airport when both planes were there. Didn't Kamala say to great fanfare in a speech a week ago in accusing Trump of avoiding a debate with her, "If you have something to say, say it too my face!" Clearly Vance was trying to do just that. It was a brilliant stunt, and it forced Kamala to take five softballs for the team.
