Do we need a righty? What about the 2nd pairing LHD? Who is that going to? Soucey? No thanks, he’s good on the 3rd pairing
Juuls can't be our third pairing right D Chef. He needs to be a fill in.

Soucy is a decent #2 lefty.
With Forbert signed Soucy is de facto 2nd pairing LD.

must not have been about money or fit.. assuming 7x7 rumours were true, I'm not sure why the Canucks wouldn't have done $7 x 8 if it was about money.
Because Lindholm isn't worth that.

Debrusk 27YO, 40PTS last season, $5.5M
Lindhold 29YO, 44PTS last season, $7.75M

Canucks save over $2.2M, yes Lindholm is perceived as the better skilled player but his play has fallen in the past couple of seasons. I like Debrusk at a lower cap hit because it also means they had more cap space to sign other players.
I don't understand this comparison at all.

You're comparing a winger with a center, and doing it completely in hindsight. The canucks rumored to offer lindholm that contract a month ago long before they'd have ever known if debrusk would be available

I like the fact that the Canucks didn’t throw big money at 30 plus players this July 1st. DeBrusk 27, Heinen 28, Sherwood 29. Forbert is 32 but big deal. I believe Miller is the oldest forward at 31.

Not having Big Z’s presence in the playoffs will hurt. I gather they are done at forward but not at D. Are there any available D-men left out there?

There is still space for another defenseman.

Heinen-Miller-Boeser
DeBrusk-Pettersson-Hoglander
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
Podkolzin-Suter-Sherwood

Petey has some proper size and speed in Heinen and DeBrusk. Heinen potted 17 last year while DeBrusk potted 19. Not your regular Mike Bossy but I like the size and speed factor for Pettersson to get more room
Still pencilling in a borderline 2nd liner (hogz) and a 4th liner in our top 6.. still didn't truly tackle the very glaring holes in skill in our top 6 (or the glaring physical holes).

Still a long summer but now we are likely solving this problem by trading more assets out

Agreed on Hoglander Raile.

Heinen, however, is an up and down the line up capable player and projects as a top nine/3rd line.

Move Garland up and Hogs down (or out entirely)....

...and yes Dude and Megs.

We still need D.

And a back up.

Work to do yet.

I think we presume Tochett's comments that he considers offensive talent in pairs and the third player will rotate/offset the missing attribute from the pair as being more of a design thing than just making lemonade from lemons. Its a strategy where the top 6 is spread over three lines.

Lindholm upset the balance because he didn't play wing as well as they anticipated (or it was plain that his greatest value add was as a pivot) and Tochett's firm belief that Joshua and Garland made each other much better and were attached at the hip.

Those kinds of attachments come and go from one season to the next, you know. Its no sure thing Garland and Joshua need to play together to be effective.

At any rate, Hoglander shouldn't be penciled in as part of a top 6 pair. He's there to rotate in as a third wheel in the top 6 group. Options include Hog, Pod, Heinen, Suter. (And since one is going to be a center, I suppose Blue Gill qualifies).

could be a good little asshole for the 4th line.

You asked why they didn't sign him, I provided another option for the team which is to sign a winger or 2 that could potentially play with EP at a more reasonable cap hit. EP is a centre so instead of looking for a 2nd line C, they looked at getting wingers instead.

Soucy is a solid 2nd pairing guy. I'd take him over Z all things being equal

So we traded Lindholm and Zadorov for ForBert and Hymen?

FFS!

Wait....I didn't see DoobRusk

Ok that's a little better

What's the dollars they got vs what the Canucks paid for these guys? I can't hunt as I'm out on the boat and can't see anything in here

The piling on of Hoggy is hilarious. How many teams have a 20 goal scorer who plays mostly in the other teams end and has a set of testicles? Is he on my dream team.... he'll no, but the anger some show towards him is .... weird. I fatten him up and move him for a pick next year.,But he's GREAT value for his cheque. Even in GreenWood.

7.75x7 Lindholm
5x6 Zads

5.5x7 Debrusk
2x2.25 Heinen
1x1.5 Forbert
2x1.5 Sherwood

...as discussed today a tidy bit of GM'ing.
