But, no! Now you’ve all been fooled into singing DeSmith’s praises. The guy the defense saved.
Yes - he's had his moments, not saying he hasn't, but the guy should have more than a few 'moments' in a playoff game.

As for DeSmith - we all know what have in him - a solid backup, that has trouble with rebound control, and I'll sing his praises because he's also made some good saves (and he's all we got!).

That pred goal would have been challenged (and likely called back) in another time and place.
In other news:

@NHLPlayerSafety
Nashville’s Michael McCarron has been fined $2,000 for goalie interference on Vancouver’s Casey DeSmith.

DeSmith on hit :D
“I kind of loved it – It got me into the game,” “I thought it was kind of funny. He was clearly coming to hit me. I was laughing after the fact. I’ve got a bunch of pads on. It didn’t hurt. So I just got up and the power play made him pay for it and that felt pretty good, too.”

Pettersson had one instance where his pp points out numbered his es+ pk points. It was in the bubble where he was a 21 year old kid and the pp ventilated the Blues. Otherwise he has 129 pp points out of 412 points. Nowhere close to 50 % in any season. He’s not some power play merchant. Pretty much every star player scores over 30 % of their points on the pp. Are they all powerplay merchants too?

To the sound of one hand clapping while the other jerks.

I am not very impressed with Peter the last 25–30 games. He needs to be better for this team to have a chance. I believe he has it in him. The cap is going up and the Canucks paid a thick price, that if he continues on his upward trajectory of the last two and a half seasons, should have his play right in line with his paycheque. He’s barely 25. The twins were not close to his level at that age. I don’t know if he’s hurt or not but he absolutely should be criticized for his play since March 1. Id rather overpay the stars by a million or even two than pay a scrub 3 or 4 million to do something you could get a guy to do for 1 million.

People can criticize all they want. I don’t care. But it seems a bit heavy handed in some cases.

Why not put DJ with him for a spell? Miky can bump down a line. Peter needs a guy with some size and snarl on his line.

Way to jinx it!
Quite a few of us said Nucks in 5, so gotta say something if it's close to it. :D

I doubt Tocc will do much changes after a W, but I was thinking of that as well. Put Garly8 & DJ81 with Petey for a bit and see if they can manufacture some offense. Make a 3rd checking line of Hoggy-Lindholm-Mikheyev.

That is also a good call. Tocchet put the lines in the blender quite a bit the last six weeks, so there has to be a method to his madness one would think. I’d like t see Peter get more ice time woh Hughes and Hronek. Just a handful more shifts. Give a different look if nothing else.

Topper wrote: Sat Apr 27, 2024 12:29 pm So over half his goals and assists came on the PP. I'll have to go back to the game logs later and look for EN and how many games he was shut out.

Miller also had 18 points that year. 6G, 12A and Horvat led the team with 10G. Hughes led the team with 14A.
Went back through the game logs, 11.6 was held off the scoresheet once by the Wild in a Minnesota shutout, once by the Blues in a Vancouver 3-1 loss, and three times by the Knights in shutout losses. He also didn't record a point in Vancouver 4-0 shut out win over the Knights.

Against Vegas, he was pointless in four of the seven games.

Both game winning goals were against Vegas. In game 2 he scored the third goal, late in the second period in a Vancouver 5-2 win. In game 5 he scored early in the third period in a Vancouver 2-1 win.

Hardly clutch.
