What was Ovechkin thinking?

Post by supercanuck »

Anyone see Ovechkin's hit on Briere? What was he thinking? Briere was in a totally vulnerable position and he had no chance to protect himself. Good thing Ovechkin didn't totally pound him into the boards.

He should be suspended for that.

I'm sure he will be... it was stupid, stupid, stupid.

I really like Ovechkin, but he's got to exert more control than that... reminded me of Dale Hunter on Pierre Turgeon.

Yeah I really don't know what the hell he was thinking. Its too bad, because he's such a beauty to watch, but this will hang over his head for awhile.

I wonder if something happened during the game?. I'm interested in hearing his comments to his cheap hit.

I've seen the reply a few times and he should have never nailed briere in such a position, It seems like it could have be a brain cramp and he was just going for a hit.

Why was the hit so bad? Because the door opened? He hit him slighty from behind, not directly into the boards, with his shoulder, and he was 6 feet from the boards as well.

2 games max. It simply wasn't that dirty a play. In fact, hits like those happen almost every game.

Yeah, I've since watched it again, and I don't think it was nearly as bad as I originally thought... it's not like he ploughed him into the boards, more gave him a bump that went wrong.

Not only was it a late hit, it was a hit from behind as well. Definitely a 5 minute penalty. And yes, it should be a suspension.

Thanks - those are the kind of hits that have to be punished. Ovechkin's been playing long enough to know that Briere was going off the ice and was not part of the play. So to hit him from behind, near the boards is inexcusable.

Were he not a poster boy for the 'new' NHL, I would think that he would have been suspended - and rightly so.

Once again, the league shows their hypocracy.

Yep, if that's Ruutu or Avery they're gone for 10.

Tucker does a hit like that every time I watch the leaves to cheer for whoever is playing them, judging by what he seems to get, 2 minutes for roughing must be the appropriate penalty.

So according to TSN there will probably be NO suspension and just a fine. What a joke. They should give him at least one game. Colin Campbell and the NHL is a joke. I hope there's no retribution in the next game between the Caps and the Sabres.
