Good. Price just went down.

Or better, it blocks this trade from happening.

I can imagine it has a lot to do with how little Armstrong wants to add the air thief.

That and the Yotes would need to retain 1.25 million per at bare minimum. OEL at 6.75 to 7 million is a lot easier to deal with than 8.25. Consider him a long term Edler replacement I guess. Still think Petey and Hughes are going to combine for a 20 million dollar cap hit. Anything less is wishful thinking. This is where the Myers contract may bite the team in the ass.

Hughes- 9.5
OEL- 8.25
Myers- 6

That’s almost 24 million for 3 D men.

An OEL trade likely spells Myers being on the move in a year or 2 I'd say. He make quite a bit for what we get out of that contract...at least he has some trade value around the league

So this trade....I would guess its pretty close to going down and the Yoties are not liking how hard Benning is bending them over on it. That is a good sign.

Yup. Then another 18-20 for the Lads, and another 10 for Miller and Horvat..

That’s 53-55 million on 7 guys. 25 remaining million for 11 other players is the coiler recipe.

If Hughes and Petey (the Lads) get paid properly, to have sufficient depth, you simply CANT have anyone else making over 6 with an 80 million dollar cap.

Hate to say it, we have to bow out of this.

I disagree, if you are paying 20 million to the kids, that you can’t have anyone else making over 6. You can probably have a two or three guys getting 6 or 7. Thing is, they have to be the correct guys. It’s all the 3 to 6 million middling guys that fuck shit up. Myers is a #4 D being paid like a #2. Sutter is a 4th line scrub making too much, Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel, Ferland etc ad nauseum.

Petey-10
Hughes- 10

You can still have say Horvat, Miller, legit #2 D man all at 6-.5 to 7 and another good forward and a goalie making good $$. The key is not to have a bunch of scrubs like they currently do messing up the cap.

Ferkland is probably retiring or at least spending the remainder of his contract on the LTIR (3 years)

Spooner buyout 1year left

Luongo has 2 more years at 3.05....yuck

Sutter-1 year left

Baertchi-1 year left

Roussel-2 years left

Beagle-2 years left

Eriksson-2 years left

These are the problem contracts at this stage. All are 1 to 2 years from gone right around when the pinch will be felt the most.

If I'm JB i focus on clearing out 2 of Roussel, Eriksson and Beagle. The least offensive for me being Beagle as he still contributes the most of anyone on this list.

The only thing I would do different is say that it’s Ericsson (I still refuse to give that Pos the respect of spelling his name correct) who MUST go this offseason and 1 of the other 2, with Beagle being my sacrifice of choice. Rooster was an a hole in the playoffs, and we need more of that.

Beagle and Roussel are fine contracts - low caphit to take the hardest minutes.

Baertschi, Erikson and Ferland are over $10 million in cap space, and basically contributed nothing in these playoffs. Getting those three dealt with, and the Canucks can take OEL or add a UFA, while keeping all of Marky, Tanev and Toffoli.

I’d assume this has to be figured out pretty smartly. Benning has a ton of shit to do over the next five days and I’d assume Sweeney is no different.

What might be better is to see if a team with a shitload of cap will take Eriksson + Olaf + Tryamkin for a 7th to get out of that contract. Then offer sheet Erik Cernak on Friday. Five year deal for 21.5 million. Compensation is a 2021 2nd round pick. He fits the age group and cap structure a lot better than OEL.
