Out.....

Stecher
Eriksson
Sutter
Benn
Pearson
Ferland
Virtanen

That's $23.2M off the books.
Gawddamn, if JB was able to pull this off, how could anyone deny that he WASN'T a genius?

He'd be GM of the decade.

Well ya never know. The only two pieces there that are going to be really challenging to move out are Eriksson and Sutter.

If a budget conscious team needs some AAV to add to their books to reach the cap floor I think that Loui would be tempting if you tossed Virtanen or Stecher on top. Same for Sutter but to a lesser extent, and you'd likely be taking back salary.

Benn's salary shouldn't be too hard to move, and if you can't, well sending him to Utica saves $400K.

Ferland is likely permanently on LTIR now.

So it's really just Pearson then.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

We've talked about it before: I doubt his contract is insured.

(so a budget team won't want him to get to the cap floor)

But if not, we can just spend $3.5M over the cap until it's done.

(if he's LTIRed of course)

We need to keep Pearson for one more year in my opinion.

It's a fair contract and he's a good large two-way #6 forward I'd say.

His contract expires just as the Pod arrives, which works for me. :drink:

Its pretty clear who hes flushing.

Leivo coming back i find curious. What did he show Benning that has him thinking like that? Hes kind of a plumber
He sounded Joyous when asked for an update on Leivo. I found it peculiar, especially being that he is a UFA. Jim was gushing about Motte and the desire to sign him. So my take from that is he wants Leivo and Motte back. Jim did explain his Tuch comment from yesterday, I didn’t get the sense in his discussion with the Moj and Taylor today that he is completely giving up on Virtanen. Jim loves his size and speed, he sounded mildly disappointed but still on board with Jake. I keep getting the sense with how confident he sounds in Juolevi, Chatfield making the jump that Stecher is this “so called” RFA who will be sacrificed to get the Big 3 UFAs signed. Stecher will be the most expensive of the RFAs to sign, and most likely best chance at recouping a decent draft pick
Motte had a great playoffs and is a solid, smart bottom six player that can bump up to top six when needed. Signing this player is priority.
He'll get a raise but not a wallet crusher.
Leivo I have never thought worth it. YUK. Why? Cause there's not enough left wingers, that's why. Kills a few penalties adequately I suppose,
not enough.. I'd flush the guy.

That’s all gonna happen over the next 2 years.. except perhaps Jake. If we can keep an 18 -20 goal scorer 3rd line guy for around 2 Million, we can do that.

Yeah... do you want 24 year old elite skater Jake scoring 20/20 playing 13 min a night making 2.5 million? Or 28 year old Toffoli lumbering around at 5.5 million on a long term deal barely cracking 50 points?

Savings of 3 million to improve the roster in other areas.

Leivo was a pretty good puck hound. Something we were lacking in the playoffs. Oh, and did I mention, he's gonna come pretty cheap!!!

Btw, It's hard not to like Motte.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

TT is a luxury they can't afford. Too bad about the price already paid for him but we were in a potential playoff push when we acquired him.
His age and inconsistent past in LA dictates him being the odd man out. Brock is already signed and Jake would be much cheaper. Both those players have a much better chance of improving their game.

Blob, compare apples to apples.

2 - 2.5 million for a 3rd line guy playing 13 minute and getting 18-20 goals is a good deal.

Look past the name on the jersey ffs.

I was looking at it from a top six and bottom six perspective and even though RW is a position of strength for them, there's still plenty of uncertainty.

Toffoli, Boeser, and Podkolzin are top six players but as you say, Toffoli is 28 and already not the greatest skater and could very well bolt back to LA as a UFA anyway, Boeser isn't worth his qualifying offer if it was due today, and Podkolzin isn't coming for another season. Now, can they get Virtenen to consistently perform in the top six in the event they lose Toffoli and/or move Boeser before they have to qualify him?

Virtanen, MacEwen, and Motte as of today are the bottom six choices with Virtanen being a 5 year pro and still not having his shit together, MacEwen appearing ready for full-time 3rd line duty providing the pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence the team is sorely lacking, and Motte is an RFA but a key one IMO. Then there's Lind developing decently in Utica. To me MacEwen and Motte are ideal for those bottom six spots, especially if Virtanen can't get his act together and learn to be better defensively and hopefully kill penalties. Plus Virtanen does have value around the league if they move on from him or he's a sweetener.

He scored another goal as well in that game, Rögle beat Oskarshamn 3-2 in ot.
Höglander scored the first goal of the game and then the game tying 2-2 (on a power play).

Former Canuck Cannata in the crease for Oskarshamn.

Not sure what jersey names have to do with anything.

You don’t have to sell me on Jake. I’m not with the pitchfork outfit that wants to run him out of town. A lot of those same posters want Toffoli back on a long term expensive deal. That’s the comparison and bang for buck per player I was making.

I still think Jake has more to give and his potential salary shouldn’t be a problem.

I also agree with the line of thinking that a good team needs a good top 9, as opposed to a top six, middle six. I just don’t want to put our best left winger who has great chemistry with our best player btw, centering another scoring line. Miller is far more effective on the wing and he’d leave a gaping hole on the left side.
