I like Burkies take. The canucks need a top 4 dman with offensive capabilities.
So who fills that need?
There's Tyson Barrie coming up UFA but how the fuck is vancouver going to make enough cap room for a 6-7+ million dollar addition unless they can clear Loui-zer off the slate? Plus...just how shitty defensively is he? Its hard to guage his year in torontoilet because they're so absolutely fucked in that room that nobody plays for the crest whatsoever. He was far better in colorado. Not great but far better than this...
Who else is coming up UFA?
Chara.

No to Barrie. I think we have potentially a better player in Barrie in Rathbone who is bigger and as good as a skater. Most people think Rathbone will be a top 4 D-man one day
We have Tryamkin coming the same time Podkolzin arrives
And if Juolevi stays healthy
But in the short term yeah we could use a good D-man. Demko is your chip to land one if we sign Marky. That being said - if Tanev is resigned and him and Edler have another healthy year our top 4 of Tanev Hughes, Myers and Hughes isn’t bad. It’s the 3rd pairing that needs help
Yeah, there won't be any $$ for UFA's this year & as you have noted, nothing desirable. So sign Tanev and hopefully at least one of the prospects makes the cut this upcoming camp.
Parting with Demko would take a outstanding player for Jimbro to pull the trigger IMHO
idk if Barrie signs for dirt cheap you might as well go for it, then you can get cheaper/affordable big tough defensive dmen to surround Q and Barrie's scoring ways.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Sounds like Laine might be available.
Brockstar, Golds + Tanev
for
Laine.
Micky is gonna love this suggestion...
Man, u have an impeccable memory. I didn't even remember writing that. *LOL* I have aired my doubts about BrockStar, but I do hope that he can find that touch/confidence with his shot again that was in clear display during his rookie season. After Brock scored that beaut one timer shot late in the Blue's series, I was really hoping that his shot was coming around again, but it didn't really materialize.
I have always liked Laine and would luv to see him in a Nuck's uni. I think our team has a lot of pieces, but is missing two major things. One is an elite legit sniper and two a solid 2-way RS D-man who can hammer the puck. I used to think Brock would be that sniper, but Petey is more that guy right now. I think Laine can instantly be that guy. Man, imagine Hughes and Petey feeding the puck to Laine all nite.
Patrik Laine doesn't have the right spirit for the Canucks. The leaves? maybe. Whining is abound there.
$6,750,000 for one more year. Then, RFA. It won't be going down. Pettesson and Hughes need contracts at that same time. Swedes hate Fins You never know if it's the right mix so why f*ck with the chemistry? What's the point in another pricey forward?

U r right, salary might be an issue, but it's only $1M more than Brock. Salo and Jarko Ruttu played with some our great Swedes like the Sedins, Matty Ohlund, Nasi, Edler, etc and was never an issue. In fact, I remember Salo being a great D-partner and mentor to Edler.

Yeah, it's not so much hate as a rivalry. And where there is hate, it's more Finns hating Swedes than the opposite.
Kind of like the animosity Scots have toward England.
And ususally we only need to remind them that their other neighbour is far worse, and then we get along fine again!

Laine is a one trick pony. I think he’s extremely overrated. He has a helluva shot, but that’s it.

It will depend upon what Jake's agent is seeking.
If it's another short-term deal at $3M or less you keep him. He's a wild card, and in a bottom-6 role the kid can be a game changer that other teams just can't counter because suddenly he shows up and plays like a first line power forward and they have no plan B.
But he will need to have a very big game tonight and then tomorrow if we survive.
He's a better skating Jim Sandlak at this point whatever that is worth. If they re-sign Toffoli they'll have to decide whether they want to continue to wait on Virtanen to be the player he "could" be or hedge the bet on Boeser and whether he'll be worth in the vicinity of the big qualifying offer he's due in a couple years. What's the more likely scenario, Virtanen being that player or Boeser returning to his rookie form?
A signed Toffoli, Boeser, Virtanen, Podkolzin, and MacEwen available for the top three RW spots makes for some tough decisions with Motte hopefully signed for the 4th line. Plus they may have Lind further down the road.

Exactly
Barrie isn’t happening. Benning has in house business to take care of before even a notion or thought is given to outsiders and what he has to take care the Barries of the world ain’t happening

Barrie gonna be cashing in. Even in these difficult times, that there D-man is going for gold. Forget it! Hughes is better and 20 yrs old.
Old man TB gonna be 30. Be wanting 8 and probably settling for 7 with term.
What Quinn Hughes does so well, just makes these other guys more valuable if you think about it..

Micky you’re waaaaay off on what Barrie is gonna get.
If somebody pays Barrie $8 million per they should be shot
