I'm not trying to dampen enthusiasm, here. Every once in awhile a second round pick is a huge impact player. Of course I want that for the Canucks. But NHL scouting systems get it wrong way more than they get it right -- almost always passing over the guy that pans out to be the guy left that will have the biggest impact; poster post-prospect-camp enthusiasm and press from the NHL and the organization doesn't change that.

I was going to post something earlier along the lines of the fact that writers rarely say anything bad about a prospect so everything we read is mostly positive, just like participation ribbons now instead of 1st place etc.

I'm not trying to dampen enthusiasm, here. Every once in awhile a second round pick is a huge impact player. Of course I want that for the Canucks. At first when we drafted Woo, I thought it was a gimmick to sell tickets (ie: win over the Asian market); however, Woo has intrigued me with the way he's trending. Just because of where he was drafted and the way he's developing in the WHL, he's looking like a way better prospect than the likes of Brisbois, Sautner, Chatfield, Teves and Rafferty. He may have even surpassed Juolevi on the prospect list, as Olli has been injured too much to get a good gauge on him. Sure, maybe Woo won't become a huge impact player, but Jet is looking like he has the tools to become a solid top 4 for us for a long, long time. Nothing wrong with being bullish on Woo.

Jett was actually scheduled to be a first rounder but an injury pushed him slightly into the second. (projected that is).
In a different world, he could possibly make the NHL club this year. Love to see him get his 8 or 9 game for the Canucks this October
but because we're "goin for it" balls to the wall this year, he'd have to be like a super hero..
But hey! Stranger things have been known to happen.
Think of the chants from the stands! Would be like a throw back to the Luongo days..........almost.

From my understanding Hoglander’s issue was top end skating speed. He looked shifty and determined in their camp but I don’t know how fast he is from that. He’ll have to be very fast at his size. He might turn into something, or he might bust, way too early to say. We might have the same concerns as we did with Dahlen by the time he gets to the AHL. He’s likely years away, but he could surprise. Woo doesn’t have a skating issue. I like his chances of making it, but yah, with this summers additions, he’d have to be a star to be on the team this year, which means he’ll probably get to start in the AHL the year after this.

He seems to have terrific agility and quick hands but lacks a hard shot. The goals I've seen are more flubbers and tap-ins than top corner rippers.

One item of interest in this ranking is Hoglander (2nd) rated higher than Podkolzin (3rd).

Anyway, a long ways to go until we see whether these prospects turn out but, for now, the future looks pretty bright.
