I am happy for thenyouth and the talent coming up,through the system.. I wouldn't hate to see anyone called up for 4-9 games this year (like Boeser) and have them burn a year of ELC.. what if we had To protect them in the expansion draft because we gave them a few games this year??

I think I would rather wait.

I translated an article from Expressen:
Pettersson in tears: ”Something just burst”
March 8th 2018 22.57
VÄXJÖ. Kenta Nilsson’s old record has been beaten. After the game Elias Pettersson was celebrated for the new points record for juniors in the SHL by both the team and the fans.
Then it burst for the 19-year old in front of his team mates.
“It just totally burst for me. But at least I managed to say a few words to the guys,” Pettersson says.

“It’s great that he got the ovation from the crowd. We’re not good at this in Swedish hockey,” says Jörgen Jönsson.
Växjö’s assistant coach and former star player Jörgen Jönsson had a hard time holding his emotions back when Pettersson during a power break got a standing ovation from the spectators so that the roof almost lifted off of Vida Arena.
“I got chills in the box. It was very special for all of us who work with him on a daily basis,” Jönsson says.

Do you see similarities to some other star player, having played with so many yourself?
“Yes, but no, I don’t think you should compare him. He is Elias. He is who he is and the others are who they are. He has already set a number of records and that speaks for itself. He doesn’t need comparissons to someone else,” says Jörgen Jönsson.

What makes him so good?
“He works hard. He is built like a shrimp, but he still succeeds through smartness and skill, while developing every day. He is determined and he loves the game.”

And has an awesome shot.
“He is a fantastic marksman. He is shooting pucks and tinkering with stuff during practice. He is phenomenal at so many things.”

Elias Pettersson: “Not important to win the points race”
Despite that it looks like Elias Pettersson will become the best points scorer of the league and has beaten the record for a junior, it’s a collected but stirred Elias that comes out of the dressing room after the 6-3 victory against Malmö.

“A fantastic feeling. I would never have expected this ahead of the season. Really not. But here I am.”

Is winning the points scoring important for you?
“No, actually not. It would be fun winning it, but right now all focus is on preparing for the playoffs. Being the best points scorer would just be a bonus. But the record is beaten and that is huge for me.”

You guys probably already seen this clip but I find it funny.

Miholtra talking to Boeser and eventually Pettersson on the bench, both kids telling Miholtra the sick moves they going to make and Many is thinking these kids are nuts...but these guys are both going to be NHL Stars

Thanks, Per. Good read.

Definitely exciting but I just hope he can translate his amazing talent in the Swedish League to the NHL. Would be interesting to see what the rest of his family is like to get a general idea of how he might fill out. Even if he doesn’t I suppose he could still be effective considering what other smallish players with great skillsets have achieved.

Will an be interesting couple of upcoming seasons to see how these young players develop.

As a side note, Cody Glass is thin guy to, see how these guys fill out in off season. I’m a bit surprised that Elias didn’t seem to gain wait going into SHL for year one.

At 188 cm (6'2" in medieval measures) I wouldn't consider him smallish. He just needs to add some muscle mass.

Yes, but at 75 kilos, he is smallish, and the higher aspect ratio only exacerbates concerns for his durability. One might imagine that a 75 kilo player who was only 170 cm tall were at least sturdily compact. Even more than he needs muscle mass, he needs skeletal and connective tissue mass (But yes, it is the same training for all, and I think you posted something earlier that shows you understand the relationships amongst those).

If they don't want to give him another season to physically mature, I'd very much want to go with the SKYO bodyguard plan.

I gotta ufa target in sight - a one R.Reaves.

check 2:20 -
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/ron ... an-reaves/

- ol rock em sock em Cherry says Pens shoulda kept Reaves, citing he was Crosby' protector and sid the kid stayed healthy while Reaves was there, healthy being the key word here, as the Canucks have been one of the most injured teams the past while, we get a few tough sons of bitches to protect our young stars that should help them from the cheap shot artists out there.

OK, let's switch focus, to Elias's slightly shorter, slightly heavier, one year older buddy - good ole Ulf Dahlén's pride and joy- Jonathan!

While Elias's team Växjö has won the SHL regular season (at the beginning of that last clip you saw them receiving the Swedish equivalent to the President's trophy at their last home game), Jonathan's team, Timrå, won the Swedish second tier league, Hockeyallsvenskan (how's that for establishing a winning culture) and now they play a best out of five series against the runner-up over who will get to challenge Karlskrona, who finished last in the SHL, in a seven game series over a SHL slot next season.

They played the first game last night and beat Leksand 4-3. Jonathan was involved in all their goals, one goal and three assists.
Get a load of that goal he scores from out of Gretzky's kitchen! Jeezus F Christ!

The future looks good! 8-)

The same so-called analysts, journalists and bloggers who bashed GMJB for picking Pettersson ahead of Glass or others, now change their tones when Pettersson set a new U20 record in the SHL. They are just plain disgusting. I have not even heard one word about what a great job GMJB has done. Yes, GMJB made mistakes just like other GMs but he has singlehandedly stocked up some young talents. The Canucks might not be ready to challenge the cup in the next year or so. However, they will be an exciting team in the near future. The same people who always call for a rebuild are the same one who have no patience for the rebuild.

What is really impressive is Elias winning the scoring championship having played four less games than the next highest scorer and more than two minutes less time on ice per game. As he gets older he should develop more stamina and play 18+ minutes compared to his 16+ minutes this season. I have no worries about his size. He is a unique player who will be exciting to follow.

I was hoping we would draft Necas, but once again Benning is showing he’s a genius. :D

Elias, Gaudette, Dahlen, Lind, plus the others, are just an impressive collection of talent. I think they will all be on the Canucks much sooner than expected if the Sedins do retire at the end of this season. I think the odds of them retiring is 50/50 right now.

I’m all for signing Reeves to patrol the wing for Elias and Brock. We definately don’t want Elias to go through what the Sedins had to during their early years. Once again the need for a few good assholes is ever apparent.
We are all Snidely Whiplash.
