I concur but you got to admit even Benning's 3rd round picks -> 7 are much more promising than Gillis era.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

I'm not arguing that they aren't. I've said plenty of times that Benning's drafting/scouting background and ability is desperately needed in this organization. For the most part, I don't mind what he's done at the draft table. That's also part of the reason his propensity to piss away picks is so frustrating.

Yup, I think the entire Canucks Nation...*looks at Madc* well 90% or nvm a lot of Canucks fans are ready to deal vets.

Botch wrote an entire piece on selling vets.
http://vancouversun.com/sports/hockey/n ... -sell-sell

This proud team with all it's glorious championships has NEVER had to SELL veterans for picks. :P :P

But it's true this team have never really sold vets before in a rebuild way, it just goes to show how poorly run this team has been for the majority of it's lifespan since 1970, really old school management, not really taking into consideration pro scouting, drafting and development, which is why I think Benning is great for this rebuild, he just has to acquire more picks now!!

So anyways yeah team needs to sell off as much vets (burr/hans/millsy/sbisa) it can and rebuild proper.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

 Not much of a genius if you're putting him on equal footing with Gillis.
Well now come on there Farmhand. Lets see how Jimbo does over 6 drafts. I wouldn't be off the mark that what Jim has done in just 3 drafts is a helluva lot better than what Gillis did in 6
He's also had far better draft position than Gillis ever did, because his teams are much worse at winning hockey games.
You mean the Juolevi Virtanen pick? For shits and giggles remove the two high picks, Bennings remaining picks are still a thousand times better.

You defend Gillis, you don't, you do, you don't. What a fence sitter

You think the guy in charge of the best teams the Canucks have ever iced did nothing right, and you insist on being attached cock-to-mouth to the guy who is icing some of the worst.

So the core "important" pieces of the team that made Gillis look good, where did those players come from? And please, fuck off with your Lapierre's. I'm talking the main talent of the team.

Oh well, if it's just gonna be a big debate for 4 months, I'll just say Pat Quinn built the best damn Canuck team I ever saw play in 94.
Pretty complete to compete in the playoffs.
I know, different era. Don't care. Loved it.
Could have had a better back-up goalie, I suppose.
Details, details.......

Turning the dial ever-so-slightly...

When Benning and Linden came on board and sold the re-tool idea, I was on board. Who wanted to see what Edmonton, Toronto or Buffalo went through? Even a one-and-done to Calgary didn't dim my outlook. The old guard was starting to look their age, but they still commanded respect in the organization.

Last year? Injuries at key positions, yada yada yada... it happens... still... compete, if not for the sake of the Twins while they close out their careers, then for the lessons such competitiveness could teach the youngins'.

Now?

Stick a fork in this team. Stick a fork in the old guard. Stick a fork in the Sedins!

Willes is right. Save the press and marketing effort on the Sedins when they do their final lap around home ice. Otherwise, time for the organization to quit paying roster and press homage to the twins and start embracing the youth movement on this team.

Twins say that ice time is earned? Horvat's there. He's earned Henrik's ice-time so time to give him young linemates to take the Twins' ice time and invest in future chemistry. Willie, wanna good 3rd line? A couple of real experienced folks wasting precious ice time on the 1st line who can ride shotgun to their old linemate currently toiling there now.

If this team wins a game and no one under 23 scores a point, it's a loss in my books. The Twins, Burrows, Hansen, Edler, Tanev, Miller.... they are last year's news. Time for management to realize such and apportion effort accordingly. At least Burrows gets it.

In fact, I would welcome management stripping Henrik of the 'C' and giving it to Bo next year. Hank can get his nose in a knot about it if he wants (to his credit, we wouldn't know if he would), but it's time to signal to fans and the league that this era is done.

It's more than just trading vets at the TDD, it's about ice-time, coaching and call-ups from here on in. No more PTO Skilles. No more career AHL-ers masquerading as big-timers. If Willie is so good at developing youth, let him do more than hide behind vets and their ice time.

Youth be served!

Hmmm a buyout is $2.33M on the cap for each Sedin X 2 years.

Buy them out... then we can protect two more young forwards in the expansion draft.

And that extra cap-space could buy a few assholes...

Lancer, you may be onto something! 8-)

Some valid points for sure.
Bo should already be wearing an "A". Don't know about stripping the "C", doesn't have to be that way, however:
At 7 million dollars each again next year, the Sedins should be willing and enthusiastic to play ANY role, the team sees fit!!!!!
Respect is one thing but a say in matters is another.
