- The suspect opened fire inside the Tree of Life Synagogue during a baby-naming ceremony, Pennsylvania’s attorney general told the Associated Press. He was later detained and identified by law enforcement officials as Robert Bowers, 46, a man with a history of making anti-Semitic statements online.

- “It’s a very horrific crime scene," Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich told reporters while choking back tears. “One of the worst that I’ve seen. And I’ve been on some plane crashes.”
