Ok then let's look at his only other playoff appearance if we need to debate this specific concern of yours.

:scowl:

The 2020 bubble Canucks played 3 teams, the Wild, the defending champs STL and the VGK

The wild tried to bully our young Swedish sapling hard and he absolutely rose to the occasion and overcame that and even thrived. He was definitely not intimidated

The work he put in to take out st Louis was eye opening. Again, he wasn't intimidated by a big team trying to hit him out of the series

Vegas again tried the same tactic with very limited success.

All 3 teams tried to bully Pettersson and Hughes and failed in my opinion.

In those 3 series (17 games) he scored 7 goals, 11 assists. 2 game winners. 4 PPG, 6 PPA. 38 shots on net in those 17 games, averaging 2.3 shots per game.

That's how Pettersson plays in the playoffs when he's on his game. What we are seeing is the slump Pettersson.

I’m seeing a whole ton of post season wherewithal parallels between Marner and Pettersson. They seem to be rendered a few notches below what they are capable of as a result of the “post season grind”. I hope for an adjustment on this current opinion of mine.

So is he waiting to make a dramatic entrance? We could really use a 2nd about now.

The last 2 games have been strange to say the least - we dominate G2 and lose, we barely hang in for G3 and win. As long as most of the team keeps stepping up, we'll get through this series, but my concern now is that the preds think know they can abuse Hughes and get away with it.

Thank you Cuz.

I have my doubts based on what occured 4 or 5 years ago in a Covid Circus post season but will submit I do appreciate your point while admitting I did not see any of that.

From what I have seen of the boy my opinion is the opposite.

He appears soft, awkward, unsteady on his skates and unwilling to do the hard things which make good players great or great players elite.

A lot of excuses being made (injured, no one to play with yada yada yada) for what is supposed to be and what someone recently called a Datsyukian Gretzky like presence.

Not sold.

We will see.

As I said in my first post today.

I hope to be proven wrong.

At which point I won't play childish games and belittle the sites users overall intelligence with ridiculous adjustments.

I'll just man up and admit it

Unlocking his noggin in time is the #1 priority for the canucks coaching staff in my opinion. Whatever is blocking him needs to get fixed fast or its lights out til October.

If I’m a guessing man, Chef lives rent free inside Donny’s Dome at the moment, I’m gathering he got wind of the “porn show” comment as the barrage started immediately after. Anyhow I wish this wasn’t the case, I actually liked Donny before he got all uptight and snooty. Grumpy Old Men we’ve become. There seems to be no water under the bridge in Donny’s mindset these days.

Anyhow Chef extends an olive branch…like a bridge over troubled waters…life goes on…walk on…

It's the not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog.

EP40 looks to be more lap than pit.

Yeah, well said and proffered in a far more concise fashion than my world salad.

Yeah they were teeing off on Hughes from the get-go last night and it looked like it took a bit of starch out of Quinn’s game. As slippery as Hughes is, he’s taking his lumps. Hopefully Tocchet comes up with a better response on that front than “embrace the pain”. Maybe have someone like Zadorov instead of Hronek if only to have someone cream anybody who touches Hughes.

So over half his goals and assists came on the PP. I'll have to go back to the game logs later and look for EN and how many games he was shut out.

Miller also had 18 points that year. 6G, 12A and Horvat led the team with 10G. Hughes led the team with 14A.

That backhand cross-crease pass from Petey to Hog was magic.
Well worthy of a Datsukian comparison.
If Hog had lifted that a few inches more, it’d have all you complainers salivating and singing Petey’s praises today.
You have to believe in Pettersson. The magic will come.
But, no! Now you’ve all been fooled into singing DeSmith’s praises. The guy the defence saved.
He’s the guy you shouldn’t be believing in, yeesh!
Start Tolopilo!

Yeah....one play does not equate to a full on Datsyuk comparison which is what has occured here and yes, I get he has made more than "one play" in his Canucks tenure.

He is, however, no where close to being placed on the discussion level of the ex Wing and to do so at this point is pure Canuck fan, rose colored glass folly.

As well, discussing opposing viewpoints on a player/team/game/play is one of the reasons this site exists.

Deeming it as complaining is just bullshit and suggesting that Hogs scoring on that play would have altered long discussed viewpoints regarding the player in question is demeaning.

So if all we are is complainers we who have EP concerns should just shut the fuck up and watch the playoff circle jerk then?

That's where we're at?

Well you don't have to believe

... but as Cuz points out, some of us have seen that Petey playoff magic before.

Not much alien magic on display right now, sure, and he deserves criticism for his play.

But I for one believe in Petey magic, based on the fact I have seen it in the past.

I suspect someone is sticking pins in a Pettersson voodoo doll somewhere in Ontario.

Break through Petey, rise up young man!
