“Given what our team and the individual players have gone through these last couple weeks, I don't expect us to be doing a whole lot at the deadline. But we still have a couple days before the deadline's here. We'll make calls and talk to other GMs to see if there's something out there that makes sense.”
I'm actually fine with that under the circumstances, and the players will sure appreciate it, but I'm expecting a decent percentage of people claiming to be fans and even some of the media will lose their minds.
It's a fine line between 'coddling millionaires' and treating them like human beings.
I think it's treating them like human beings while also understanding none of their remaining UFA's with the exception of Edler fetching anything worthwhile. After how last offseason was received by the players, I'd doubt Benning and Aquilini would want the potential fallout of trading a Sutter away from his young family immediately after going through what they just did, and with a great deal of uncertainty still remaining, for all of a 3rd or 4th round draft pick.

Oh I get that, too - Benning gets to look like the good guy by saying that none of the trades which weren't going to happen aren't going to happen (but he'll keep his lines open. ;) ).

I'm giving up the ghost.

DON'T move towards the light!

You're gonna be okay big guy.

All this pain we've suffered for all these decades will be rewarded.

I want you to be here on that glorious day my friend... and it's so close now.

Hell, I need you to be here!

There, I said it.
Thanks friend. I was having trouble shaking this one off. It came as a real gut punch but I think I'll be be able to return to the fray alright now. The real challenge was and still is going the distance in this grueling battle. The punch you're not expecting is the one that hurts you and that Pearson deal put me down on the deck for a nine count.

But I beat the count again ;)

Doyle is the epitome of William Conrad. Same body, hair line and cranky face

UDL is his buddy Barnaby Jones

I picture Doyle at work as a later version of Jim Rockford. A dingy office trailer with old coffee cups everywhere that left rings on his paperwork. Overflowing trash can with fillet-o-fish boxes and a&w bags laying below
