OEL trade is still progressing tonight.
AZ wants Höglander, Podkolzin or Demko but may have to settle for Lind as the prospect because Hog/Pod/Demko are no-go’s for Canucks.
Names like Virtanen and Sutter have been floated in trade too.

Nice contract for Motte. 1.2 AAV is excellent.
This is a good deal for the team. Took a while for him to figure this league out but kind of broke out this year and was great under the
pressure of the playoffs.
Again with the "broke out this year".
Yeahno, Motte has always been a solid 4th liner.
This resigning (dollars + term) was very predictable.
Good on Jimmy for trading for Motte, and a solid re-signing.

Right, better eligible for the expansion draft. And I am 99% sure he will be, though who knows if he'll be selected.
Holtby was an elite goalie for 4-5 years, winning the Vezina and the Jennings. In his first "average" season he won the Stanley Cup. In his second average season, well, he was as good as Markstrom.
Last year was his one and only poor season. Goalies don't typically fall off a cliff at Age 30, but they can sometimes. That's Markstrom's age this season -- Holtby is a whole 4-5 months older. So the downside Demko is the starter and you've got a overpaid backup, but one who is far likely to be better than asking DiPietro to try his hand. (Talbot -- older than both by a couple years -- is a backup of less caliber than Holtby getting paid 3.3 on a three years deal as of today). The upside is a better goalie than Markstrom for a salary sure to be less than Markstrom on a term that's sure to be less than Markstrom's.
This is a great signing if reports are true (and there's exposure at expansion and Canucks can evaluate in a year whether Demko is the GOTF).
Agreed, fantastic signing!
I think Holtby + Clark is better than Markstrom - Clark.
Let's see now...
Markstrom - $6M x 6 + full NMC
Matt Murray - $6.25M x 4 + 10-team NTC Holtby - $4.3 x 2 + 4-team NTC
Talbot - $3.67M x 3
Jimmy is a genius and any Canuck fan who doesn't love this signing is nutso IMPO.

What a waste of fuckin time that was! Gawd (re:OEL).
It may have indirectly hurt us because it backed up the talks with our pending UFAs.
Oh well what's done is done, no use whining about it. Lots of work to be done going forward.
Agree, very curious to see how Vancouver does over the next few days.

Really Topper!? Thats your contribution to the hockey world today? Was there anything that was said here that lent itself to warrant your incredibly gifted one-liner?
Yeah, my tolerance level is basically shot for the week. Can feel a cab-sav hang-over coming on for tomorrow... combined with a puff or two ofcourse.
I get a kick out of you broom pushers who think managers are unable to weigh multiple scenarios and outcomes at one time.
I am relieved that we didn't do 6x6 with a full NMC. Honestly. Markstrom just made Calgary a better hockey team but we are ok. The only thing that would have made this nicer is if we had traded his rights to Calgary for a conditional pick, like a 2nd.
Decent radio interview, presser, with JB, (another formal one coming later). Sounds like Demko was the stumbling block with the potential OEL deal
and they were talking as late as this morning.
VERY much thinks Ian Clark will be a huge benefit for Holtby as he did with Markstrom.
Will not use the buyout option now.. Says Sven Baertchi will come to training camp and have his shot at making the team and if not will continue on the farm. He is still talking to Chris Tanev and will continue to. Sounds like an offer is there and Chris is going to sleep on it.
More later...pet peeve! Most of these reporters, even the respected ones, have one question planned instead of a 1A, 1B, !C. So the same questions get asked..
Jake will be back, regardless of the number and Jim expects him to be a 20 goal scorer..
Tyson Barrie IS being considered.
