I remember a couple of years ago when Asham went UFA there were posters around here hoping we'd pick him up. Do you think the Canucks claim him?

Asham may have been a good pickup 2 - 3 years ago but I'm not sure about now . I guess he couldn't do much worse than Sestito.

Came here to post that exact thing.

There were posters very high on him prior to his suspensions.

Waive Sestito and pickup Asham. Asham isn't really an upgrade as far as overall play goes, but he's definitely tougher and more serviceable in a 4th line role. Sestito is useless.....he's like a poor man's Momesso.

Canes apparently happy with Manny's play on their farm team. Apparently he is a FO beast. Said they will not wait the full 25 game try out contract to make a decision on whether to offer him a NHL deal and call him up. They suck at FO and are impressed with what he has done. So maybe Manny has earned another chance. Decision to be made in another 4-5 games.

If he makes it maybe we could trade for him at the deadline so we have an elite third line shut down centre that can win draws? What a second perhaps? What ya think RD?

Different game now, but how dare you!

STL would still re-do that trade!

So Paul Holmgren (a few days ago, i know old news) came out and said Pronger will never play again.

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013/10/ ... rs-report/
According to capgeek.com, Pronger’s contract runs four more years at an average cap hit of US$4.9-million. But by placing him on their Long Term Injury Reserve, the Flyers — who have no room left under the cap — gain some relief. If Pronger were to retire, the Flyers would still have to count the money he is owed against the cap. In short, it’s to their advantage for Pronger to stay un-retired.
How does the league not see this as cap circumvention?

'Cause in his off time, Pronger is blowing Bettman?

Because only Pronger can officially retire, and there's no incentive for him to do so. If he retires he doesn't get paid. As long as stays un-retired, but injured, he can continue to collect his salary by doing nothing. Doesn't really matter much to the Flyers, they're better off paying Pronger and using his LTIR space than not paying him and having less money to spend on salaries.

I also suspect there would be a lawsuit between the league and the NHLPA if the team tried to force retirement on Pronger.

Ya I agree. Why would Pronger retire? No way he should either. He has a legitimate career ending injury and is entitled to collect his pay cheque. It would be different if the injury was suspect but in this case I see no problem and no cap circumvention. I'm sure if you asked the Flyers they would rather have a healthy Pronger than this.

I had a love hate relationship with this guy. But it is sad his career comes to an end this way. The only good news is that we won't have to see him struggling to keep up in a Team Canada uniform ever again

This would make a lot more sense if the Canes AHL affiliate was the Portland Pirates.
