What about next season?Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 6:35 am Just one more season of
Sutter - $4.375 million
Edler - $6 million
Baertschi - $3.366
Pearson - $3.375
Total - $14.1 million off the books after next season
What’s the problem?
There isn't enough money to re-sign Tanev and Markstrom whom without both the Canucks wouldn't have made the playoffs this season. So are the Canucks writing off next season and waiting for 21-22 to make the big splashes?

If it's up to me, the plan with Tanev will be through good UFA signings. There are a number of surprisingly good players getting bought out / not qualified of RFA deals, and with the flat cap there will be bargains out there for the smart GMs. Wennberg will be a good target, for example. Yeah, Tanev departing will hurt, but it could be patched up.mr perfect wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 11:24 am

Demigod Demko is obviously the replacement plan for Marky. I'd like to see Marky back, but he earned the right to a big pay day so I don't fault him for using the leverage he got. It's a buyer's market for goalies this year, so getting a good vet to back up Demigod at an affordable cap should be very doable. Crawford on a ecent 2-3 year deal maybe?
Edit: oops, Wennberg is a centre. I think I confused him with DeMelo. But the point stands.

Benning should take a long hard look at Gudas.
If OEL lands here and both Markstrom and Tanev are gone, as well as possibly Toffoli. I’d add Gudas as a replacement for Tanev. In theory he should be available for around $4M.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, imaginary number math with Mr. Hargraves!Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 9:29 pmIf you’d like the management team to be smart... they don’t.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 8:07 pm
Even with all that, not sure how they fit the Lads into a flat cap with OEL’s contract... Tight.
10+ 10 + 8.25 + 6 + 6 + 5.75 + 5.25 + all the other poison contracts leaves fuck all for depth. Math isn’t strong point here.

Yeah, the 'tweet' said this:
"The teams are believed to be grinding over which prospect or player is included in the deal.
Coyotes have asked for goaltender Demko, which is a non-starter for Vancouver. There is also the issue of how much money Arizona may or may not take on as part of the trade package."

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
I understand what you are saying, RF. I think the OEL trade is very much a thing right now and don't believe his agent's deadline is real. Reasons for my thinking is that Jake Virtanen has been qualified and the Canucks don't seemed to be worried about him taking them to arbitration the way they were with Stecher which means JV is a piece of the OEL trade. But what, in the end the trade is too rich for the Canucks and they walk away? CapFriendly shows Vancouver with 18 signed NHLers and just under 13.5 million in cap space. Of that bunch you have Louie and Sven who are AHL bound which would make 2.15 mil more available, so make it 15.6 for 16 players. If Ferland stays on LTD for next season then his cap hit can be replaced and that means the Canucks are looking at 19 million for 8 more roster spots. It's my belief both Tanev and Markstrom can and will command $6 mil on the open market. Don't sneer at the possibility of what Tanev could command, he's still the Canucks best D-man in his own zone. Rumour has it Pittsburgh is prepare to offer him $5 mil x 5. I would rather have Tanev for the next 4 seasons at $6 mil that Myers. Tanev is only 6 weeks older than Myers and Myers is as injury prone as Tanev. But I digress. The 2019-2020 Canucks defensive core was the best one they had since the 2014-2015 season yet was plagued with inconsistencies, especially breakout passes from their own zone. Right now the Canucks have only 4 defensemen with NHL experience currently signed, three are over 30 and one of those was a seventh D-man. I don't see the Canucks going with Juolevi, Rathbone and Woo in their line up for 20-21, as a matter of fact probably only Juolevi with his 6 minutes of NHL experience with be on the Canucks roster, possibly in the top 6 but don't expect him to light the NHL on fire. So the Canucks, through free agency or possibly trade will have to come up with defensemen and a goalie who are as good or better than Tanev and Markstrom but at below market value. Because if they don't, they don't make the playoffs next season. I'd say that's a near impossible task.
Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Time to be a hard ass Benning. We should only give a player or prospect if LE is part of the deal. We're doing Arizona a favour by taking that contract off their hands, so we better not give away the farm.theman wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:44 pmYeah, the 'tweet' said this:

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Rooster has his uses. Beagle was disappointing in the playoff but could be buried in the minors or bought out in 2021. Right now it's the front loaded contract for Erikkson that's the killer, Doc. It could prevent the Canucks from making the playoff in 2021.Strangelove wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:33 pmAlso Spooner and Benn will be coming off the books.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 7:23 amEven betterMadcombinepilot wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 6:51 am... you know that equals a little over 17 million, right??Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 6:35 am Just one more season of

As you know, Loui, Roost, Beags contracts overlap the next Petey/Hughes contracts.
Trade Beagle after his SB next July and the team getting him is only due $1.2M in real dollars.

My source isn't responding to my texts so I know nothing. He goes dark like this when he doesn't trust himself to not say too much which tells me that where there is smoke there is fire. Which doesn't tell us anything at all that we don't already know.
