I don't think that I've read any fiction that was written in the last 50 years. I don't read much these days, but I used to devour the classics.

I picked up Greg Palast's Vulture's Picnic . Damned depressing to learn more than you want to about the real world. Usefull knowledge....or just depressing? Palast's books are great reads.
