Canucks - Oil, Trevor Linden jersey retirement: 6:00 PM/SNET

Post by dr.dork »

Payback time for the Oilers.

Before the game will be the jersey retirement ceremony for long time fan favourite Trevor Linden. This proves that sometimes nice guys do finish first.

Hopefully the boys will show up after that jolt and put the Oil "back in their place". Sanford gets the start in the rotating goalie drill.

Hopefully the Canucks come out strong... and Sandford doesn't let in a weak one on the first shot.. Going to be an emotional bunch at the garage tonight.. Maybe it'll turn the Nucks on.. End of an era.. Good luck Trev.. and GOOOOOOOOOO Canucks... :)

Bernier ... Kesler.5 on 5 n Sedins 1 on pp .. ..( no swedes.5 on 5.. games going to be a rough one )
3 to 2 Canucks in regulation..
Nuck fan Since 1970 and still no Cup :(

Kind of sad that Bure didn't make it to the ceremony with the other 1994 teammates, I wonder if it was logistical or personal?

Forgive me for asking a stupid question, but does Garth Butcher have a permanent shiner??

I wouldn't put too much weight into that. They had some who are available much easier for an one hour ceremony representing the whole team and that's imo what Trevor's standing for mainly, the 94 team.

Let's be honest, i really doubt that #16 would be in the rafter now without this magical run...

Nevertheless some nice memories, some nice old faces, i enjoyed it watching but a new era already has begun.

Glad to hear that they did a good job. Let's hope the team continues the tribute!

Hey 2:0, first thanks to Staios for pushing Daniel in...

And then another "garbage" goal by Bernier.

Woohooo crossbar Edler, crucial time for the Oil now not to get under the truck, their nerves seems scratched, no wonder after last nights game...

It has been a satisfyingly lively game, both teams into it, as you would imagine a divisional tilt would be.

Reminds me of Saturday's tilt; a couple of lucky breaks leading to a 3-0 lead, not really indicative of the final score.

That said, the Canucks played a smart and tactical 3rd period with only 4 defensemen.

Newsflash: Salo landed awkwardly and is injured. Someone ought to enroll him into an introductory martial arts class and learn how to land a fall! I've lost complete confidence in Salo and resent Nonis for signing him to a 4 year deal.

I just thought of something.

AVig dressed only 6 defensemen. And Sami Salo was one of them.

HMM. "Forward thinking?" Not.

I've seen other sweater retirement's, most of them alot shorter and more boring. This was long and I wasn't bored at all.

Very well done, good to see some of the old players back. Never thought about it but when they said your first goalie to be captain was Captain Kirk. It's not official but very true.

Well done by the Canucks, totally different than Luke's, but it time well spent.

Trevor wore #9 in honour of Lanny McDonald in Medicine Hat.
When he arrived in Vancouver, Tony Tanti (!) had #9, so Trev took #16 in tribute to another Prairie legend, Bobby Clarke.
