GDT: Canucks host Wings - 7pm SNet 11/24

Post by Cornuck »

After what can only be called a successful road trip in spite of Luongo's injury, we're back home to face one of the league's hottest teams. The good news? We're just as hot. Both the Wings and 'Nucks are 7-1-2 in their last 10 (although Detroit has won their last 5).

Sanford starts tonight and has proven to be an able backup. Hopefully the team will come together and work hard in their Captain's absence.

Stat of the day - Wings are .600 when trailing after 2. (Canucks are .250)
Bonus stat of the day - Each Sedin just needs one point each to reach 400 career points.

Well I'm not expecting much tonight, but if the team at least competes I'll be happy. After such a good road trip, sadly, I think a stinker is due. I'm anxious to see Schneider play. Hopefully he gets in this week.

I'm predicting a win tonight. I think the team will play more defensive to help Sanford. I'm guessing the next game against Calgary will be the letdown game (our big letdowns always seem to be against division rivals).

But it would be easy for the team to mail it in tonight, though. We'll need big games from everyone.

Another good news stat... Canucks have the same goal differential as Red Wings... both are +16 :) Bad news stat... Wings PP is 32.9 %.... Canucks 16.7 % ... Detroit will whoop butt if Canucks take many penalties...

With Luongo, Bieksa and Salo all injured its doubtful we'll win this one... Sandford would have to have the game of his life..

So.... predicting a loss :(.... but hoping for a miracle win :)

Detroit 4 .... Canucks 3

I have been pessimistic the last three games and they have proven me wrong every game. I don't want to jinx them, and so I declare that I am pessimistic about this one.

Here are my predictions:

- The twins and Demitra will give the Wings fits.
- The Kesler line will give the Wings fits again.
- The Detroit powerplay will go through a drought tonight.
- If Kesler's line scores we win, otherwise we lose.

We will miss Luongo, but Detroit will miss Holmstrom.

Canucks always show up for Detroit so I expect it will be a good game.

By the way, has anyone had any luck with the Sportsnet HD channels (cable 310-312) ? It seems to be sporadic. Some games work, some don't. (Pittsburg didn't work, and slumming it in non-HD bites).

I agree with dr. dork, if the Kesler line has a big night (offensively) we win, otherwise we're screwed.

Great fight, McCarty and Hordichuk! Love it when a free-swinging lefty drops the gloves against a free-swinging righty. Best of all Keith Van Horne's moustache gave the decision to Hordichuk.

I also don't want anyone to come on and say Sanford should have saved Detroit's first goal. That was a sick backhand, high off the post and in. Any goalie can tell you that you can't read backhand shots off the stick, and he was coming full speed on his off wing.

Lively crowd, good to hear.

anyone else feel like the refs don't call holding and hooking on detroit? or goalie interference.

anyway, it's a weird game. detroit is definitely in control here (only 9 shots for us!), but the canucks don't seem to panic. Sanford has looked alright. But boy does he go down quick.

Lo and behold, after a few futile attempts to get this game on the HD channel, it seems to be working for the 3rd period.

So, check your HD channel if you have it!

CMON CANUCKS!!! 1-1 in the 3rd vs the Red Wings (who look outstanding), first game back after a grueling road trip and without our Talisman in net, more than I anticipated. Let's get greedy and beat our Conference Rivals in regulation!

i repeat my claim that the refs aren't calling the wings...anyway, it's pretty unbelievable that the canucks are really not breaking.

everytime i see him play, i'm more and more impressed by o'brien.

impressive game by the canucks. Fred mentioned in the forum that they are reversing the puck more, and i think he's right. the Canucks are moving the puck better and better out of their zone. even when the wings had control in our zone, there were no clear lanes to the net. this is a very disciplined hockey team right now, and a well-deserved win. pretty much every d-man can control the puck.

and demitra is really coming on. and the sedin's love playing with him.
