GDT-10/21 Canucks visit BJ's - 4pm - SNET

Post by Cornuck »

Will the real Vancouver Canucks please stand up? After looking like the team we've been waiting for, we see them deeply descend into mediocrity. Combine mediocrity with injuries and it doesn't look good.

"That defense did welcome back Kevin Bieksa, who had missed three games because of a knee problem, but center Rick Rypien was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury and the Canucks might be further short-handed Tuesday.

Demitra suffered a "rib contusion," defenseman Sami Salo a "tweaked groin," and left wing Darcy Hordichuk a "tweaked knee" in Sunday's defeat, according to coach Alain Vigneault. All are considered day-to-day."

Our special teams are indeed 'special' on this road trip. We've allowed 8-26 on the PK, and gone only 1-20 on the "power" play. Sad...

The good news is that Columbus is as hot as we are right now, losing 3 of their last 4.

Well, hopefully the boys can get back on track tonight. They are a young team now, which has both its benefits and detriments. Not ready to give up on them as I do really like some of the things we have been seeing. Finally they have some speed and seem to be able to put the puck into the net more than last year. The D needs to tighten up a little and Luongo definitely needs to pull up his socks a bit. A few bumps in the road are probably a good thing, but hopefully there aren't too many more in a row or I am going to, like everyone else, start questioning the integrity of this highway.
My prediction; going to be positive here - 4-3 Nucks; Raymond, Bieksa, Burrows, Daniel.

Vincibility lies in the enemy.

Rob Davison was practicing on the wing incase our guys get nabbed off of the waiver-wire. (what's the deadline - noon?)
P Leclaire has a bad thumb on his blocker hand, we may see Norrena instead.

IF we win, it's a .500 road-trip playing 6 games in 11 nights.

We got LUONGO!!!!!!!!!!

6 games in 11 nights is tough. If the team pulls out at .500, I wouldn't be that disappointed. I'm loving these eastern games as I get to watch the Canucks and get to bed at an early enough time. Let's hope the boys can take it to the Beejers tonight.

Looks like Krog and Wellwood might make the line up tonight.. Both teams got injuries and both got problems .. I am guessing the Canucks special teams do better tonight. 4 -2 Canucks.. Sedin line with 1 on pp and 1 5 on 5..

Not expecting much tonight, however if we win it we'll end up .500 on this roadtrip which is as good as you can expect. Louie needs a strong rebound game.

Edit: Brutal goal by Louie. Jesus, what is wrong with him?

That was the most frustrating period of hockey ever. I have no idea how we didn't tie it. I get the feeling we're going to be seeing a pretty long losing streak. It was a close game, but demoralizing. We lost to Minnesota 2-1 last year in a similar game and it ended up with us losing 7 of 8.

Terrible terrible game.

For some reason my cable video feed wasn't working (although audio was). Maybe that was a good thing.

Leclaire stood on his head in the 3rd period. If it wasn't for him the game would have ended 5-3. The only high point for me in this game was seeing Wellwood produce. Bieksa and Bernier also played alright.

Could fear of demotion be the one thing that motivates him to produce? Let's hope so... I notice he's also at 62% on faceoffs in his 2 games here....

Wellwood can be very useful to this team, it's just a matter of AV knowing how to maximize his potential. I know it would be tough to do, but keeping Wellwood around as a PP specialist would not be a bad idea.

I have NHL Gamecentre and I wouldn't call what I have seen against the Blackhawks and the BJ's time to panic. We were really unlucky to come out of both of those games with 0 points. Leclaire just came up big in the third and Cristobal Huet back in Chicago had a great game against us. It happens sometimes, the bounces just aren't going our way right now and the injuries aren't helping, either. Hopefully we'll have some guys back in the line-up for the Oilers and this isn't a sign of things to come on the injury front.
