I think this prayer from our very own GM says it all
After hitting what many players called rock bottom, Vancouver Canucks general manager Dave Nonis didn't mince words Thursday when evaluating his team's play.
He was blunt and direct. He was cutting. He called his players "lazy and stupid."
During his weekly segment on a Vancouver morning radio show, Nonis took his players to task for their effort in the 8-2 fright night against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.
Last year, we prided ourselves on being an
incredibly hard-working and intelligent team," Nonis said on the show. "And I thought (Wednesday) night, and for much of the first game as well, we were neither.
"We were lazy and stupid. That's something you can't put up with."
We need a big bounce back effort (a bit like the Leaf's win over the Isles last night) to get the team back on track. Hopefully getting humiliated by the Flyers was enough to embarrass the team into actually trying.
As I'm an eternal optimist I say 4-2 Vancouver, Raymond with a pair.
I'm still looking for a source but I read on another board that Linden and Raymond will sit out tonight in favour of Isbister and Ritchie. If this is accurate I think it's a mistake. I understand making the team "harder to play against" but taking out all our speed doesn't make and sense to me.
Either way I expect a rebound game and a big performance by the D. I'd say 4-1 Vancouver. Naslund and Ohlund will score. Rypien will fight twice.
If Raymond is out, I'll change my multi-goalscorer to Henrik. I have no idea why Linden is being bumped out of the lineup, Isibister is a joke. The only possible reasoning that AV could have is that we won last time he was dressed..
It's too early in the season to have an 'important' game, but this is damned close. Tonight we'll see how the team responds to be called 'lazy and stupid'.
I'd also like to see a great game from Luongo as well - that's not asking too much is it?
Yikes... Souray with 10 seconds left in the period. You could feel that one coming.
EDIT:
BURR!! Why was there any question about this guy making the team? Right there he proved exactly what I've said all offseason. He is a great PKer and he has electric speed when he wants to.
