Vigneault Vittles: Post-Game News Conference

Post by B. Mackin »

Alain Vigneault after the Canucks' 3-1 opening night loss to the San Jose Sharks at GM Place:

"Not the way we wanted to get started and obviously not the result we were hoping for."

"Ryan Shannon had multiple, multiple, multiple opportunities to score... He just wasn't capable of finishing."

"We need to spend less time killing penalties, we did a good job tonight killing them."

"(The Sharks are) a very young, talented, big, strong team, they’re one of the best in the NHL."

Yea, Shannon had some wide open chances. BMo also missed on a gaping net as well though, lets hope this was first game jitters for all.

I really hope that in the not-to-distant future DN gives the twins some real firepower to work with. Can you imagine them with a legit top 3 winger? They looked great tonight, if they had a sniper to finish off those chances he would have gotten the hat trick.

Also did AV really say that? He sounds frustrated with the kid already, although he at least got himself in position for his chances in his first game. He just needs to finish one or two of those golden opportunities. Maybe this is AV's way of trying to avoid another season of squeezing every drop of offense out of this team by making it obvious that we don't have a legit scoring threat to go with either of our top two offensive pairings?

Sounds like Shannon will be a scratch tonight. I guess Cowan and Isbister in and it doesn't matter for whom.
