Michael Vick is Going to the Slammer

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Michael Vick is Going to the Slammer

Post by DavidPratt_ »

Michael Vick is going to jail…
Next Monday Vick will plead guilty to promoting dog fighting…
The question of how long he’ll spend in jail is still not known…
But over the weekend CNN was reporting that the offer on the table started at 18 months but could be as much as 3 years…

Vick was facing up to 5 years in jail and was expected to get hit today with racketeering charges…

Last week three co-defendants flipped and revealed that Vick was much more than just the money man…

According them…Vick hung and drown dogs that did not preform…
Earlier today his lawyer Billy Martin issued this statement…

“Michael wishes to apologize to everyone who has been hurt by this matterâ€￾…
No where in that statement is there any mention of the pain and suffering Vick and his partners inflicted on the dogs…

As for the price Vick will pay for those actions…jail time is just the start…
The dog fighting also involved gambling which will allow the NFL to ban Vick for life…
In other words his football career is almost certainly over…
Then there’s the money…

Two years ago Vick signed a 10 year contract worth $130 million dollars…
He has already been paid $40 million…
However $37 million of that came in the form of signing bonuses…
Pleading guilty not only allows the Atlanta Falcons to cancel the contract it also opens the door to reclaim all of those signing bonuses…

If the team is successful in that attempt…by the time pays his legal fees and gets out of jail…Vick could be flat broke…

There are those who would argue that the punishment is still not enough…
But think about it…

Vick is now 27 years old…he’ll be 30 when he gets out of jail…

With no football…no money…and a criminal record…
What do you think his options will be???
For Michael Vick this story is not going to have a happy ending…

It may not be enough…but DAMN…it’s close…

Not to mention when he does go to jail, he's gonna have to deal with the animal lovers who will make him pay.
E1-E4 = I made it up.
E5 = Found it on tsn.

The guys is a piece of shit, and now he pays - hopefully the media will stop talking about him now, and forget about him.

The CFL has recently agreed to honour any suspensions from the nfl. I am against this policy however in this case I'm strongly for it.

I hope his ass gets the same wounds in prison as his dogs.

What a joke. How many kids have named this guy as their role model and hero, and he pulls dumb stunts like this? I hope this guy never has the opportunity to put on an NFL jersey ever again. Complete travesty.

What an absolute black eye for the NFL. Undoubtedly one of the 10 most popular players turns into one of its darkest, most brutal characters.

While Vick's actions are completely morally reprehensible, I don't believe that he is a "bad person," so to speak. The problem stems from him being ignorant. Dog fighting is culturally acceptable to some people in the part of the country where he grew up - much the same way cockfighting and bullfighting are glorified in other parts of the world.

It is unfortunate that Vick was unable to turn his successes in sports into a morally improved lifestyle. Although his example is a particulalry viscious and disgusting one, many athletes (in all sports) suffer from a similar problem: they never get their heads screwed on straight.

Unfortunately, I believe that Vick will be considered more of a hero than a villian in prison anyway. I'm sure a lot of people in Southern US prisons are from the same cultures that find dog fighting acceptable. They may take offense to the particulary brutal ways that the dogs were killed, but I don't think he's going to become villified by many convicts. I'm sure he will be the most protected person in that prison - by both guards and inmates.

I strongly disagree with you. While dog fighting among some may be a black market sport down there to take you're hands and do those things to those dogs requires a very disturbed mind. You have to be messed up with anger somewhere to do those things. To watch and bet is one thing...

But just try and visualize yourself doing those things... no way man.

He is one sick hombre.
