SOF The questions!

Post by Meerschaum »

Yes folks, it's that time of year again.

Time for the GM of the Canucks, unaccompanied by armed guards, South African mercenaries or Jack McIlhargey, to make himself available for direct questions from the Canucks faithful.

As usual, Mattola, myself and possibly a few other erstwhile Canuckscorner denizens will, provided our livers survive the upcoming weekend (always a dubious gambit), be in attendance and, in the interests of online democracy, online gambling, online pornography and all other things online, will take upon ourselves the heavy burden of asking the big (and, I do mean BIG) DN himself a couple of questions concerning the fate of your beloved hockey franchise, and report back to you.

So, folks, pose your most knotty, burning, probing or interrogatory questions in this thread.

Matty and I will choose the most prurient selection to run past Mr. Nonis.
Modo vincis, modo vinceris.

Bourdon or Edler? With the emergence of Edler's play during the playoffs this past season, and the apparently stalled growth of Bourdon's play in the juniors, what does Nonis have in mind as to our #6/7th spot?

Too many euros? Looking our the stanley cup champions, they have a roster of majority in North American born players, and most of them, are Canadians. What's Nonis' thoughts as to this strangely occurance year in and year out? Would he consider bringing in more Canadians?

Euro Captains curse. We saw Daniel Alfredsson basically tore apart the East and willed the Sens to the Finals. And totally collapsed. This Euro captain curse has not been broken. What does Nonis think about this topic, and would he strip Naslund's captaincy just so we win the cup?
This signature hates SOB as much as the guy who wrote this signature.

Why has no attempt been made to improve the scouting staff?

Cory Schneider options and time frames in light of the rumoured leak that he was being offered to Philly in the draft.

1. Please, explain why our CHL scouting is so poor. Why is it that a Canadian team with not one, but TWO CHL franchises hasn't drafted an impact player (eg first line player or top pairing d-man) out of the CHL since 1988?

2. Why is it also, that we continue to draft Russians in our later rounds when:
A) There is no transfer agreement in place
B) Not a single Russian drafted after the 2nd round has ever put on an NHL (or even AHL) jersey. (Bure doesn't count - his was a unique situation.)
C) Russians never seem to be a major part of any Stanley cup winning team

3. Why is it that we never seem to draft players out of Finland or the Czech republic, when they are known to produce top tier hockey talent.

4. Why we never seem have the creativity to move up (or down) in the draft to either:
A) Nab someone we are high on,
B) Nab someone who has fallen
C) Move down when we can acquire additional picks and still nab someone we like.

5. Why our scouting staff is still composed of a bunch of Ex-Canucks, leading us to believe that it's just an "ol' boys" country club rather than an efficient scouting group.

6. Why, when the Anaheim Ducks have just won the Stanley Cup with 3 undrafted FA signings in their Top 6 (MacDonald, Kunitz and Penner), we never seem to sign any quality young NCAA or CHL talent to stock up our AHL or ECHL clubs?

7. Why Ron Delorme continues to be our lead scout after the Kopitar/Bourdon debacle?

6. Credit to Bryan Murray, the best GM in the league. Sorry Burke, you're no. 2

7. Jury's still out on Bourdon. San Jose (a traditonally strong drafting team) passed on him and took Devin Setoguchi who hasn't exactly been lights out either.
