We've been having this debate as well in our Canucks forum and so far, the feeling is that DN should hold onto him until the end of the season. But a couple of fans of other teams have another suggestion...
It's known that Sheldon Souray, (currently $2.4M, 41 points, -9) wants to go west - his wife is from LA I've heard; Montreal is also looking for a scoring center... Also that Datsyuk's contract demands probably make him a little too pricey for the now cap-conscious Wings, especially given his amazing powers of postseason invisibility (Zetterberg has been better in the postseason, say the Wings fans on our board) and are looking to replace Mathieu Schneider on the point on their PP... Of course, we know that the Nucks will be in tough to re-sign or replace Salo... How about a three-way in which Vancouver gets Souray, Datsyuk dangles for Montreal, and Detroit gets Salo? This time last seaso, DN was trying to send Bert to Montreal in a package that included Souray coming back the other way so we know there is interest... Souray's plus/minus is a concern, and Salo is the only 'plus' defenceman among the Top 4 in Vancouver... Thoughts?

If he's affordable in the whole context of the team, they have to keep him. just let's see what he's demanding. Maybe he stays for nearly the same, who knows...the Cunning Linguist wrote:..... and Salo is the only 'plus' defenceman among the Top 4 in Vancouver... Thoughts?

I would not understand trading Salo at this point, we already dumped Jovo's salary in the offseaon. Salo's slapper could be huge during playoff PP's, not to mention our future. These rumors are nasty, and I hope they they have no merrit.

I think Sami will be moved. Pratt mentioned Carolina, but they're one of the few teams in the league that have a plethora of good D men.
Buffalo, Pittsburgh or Atlanta would be the front runners in this noob's opinion. What we would get in return most likely is picks....Sami would certainly garner a 1st rounder or at least a 2nd accompanied by a fill-in body.
I would love to see that Horton-Naslund deal done with maybe Boumeester included for someone.....please say Bulis.......wishful thinking, but who knows whether Markus would even allow such a deal and waive the no-trade clause.

Re: Rumour: Salo to possibly be traded
There is NO WAY Salo will be traded at the deadline IMO. Salo is too important to this team. Nonis wll take the risk of losing him for nothing, and will try and sign him in the off-season.Luongo19 wrote:I heard from ppl on a different forum that the canucks might trade Sami Salo cuz of his high salary and he is a free agent at the end of the season. If the canucks were to trade Salo, which team should we trade him to and who should we get in return?

Agreed.
Trading Salo is INSANE....unless some crazy deal that Nonis can't refuse comes up (ie what St. Louis got for Tkachuk).
Face it, UFAs is now just part of the NHL....you're gonna win some & loose some. Big deal if Salo walks, you just replace him w/ someone else's UFA. Its just a fact of life now. When you're going to make the playoffs & had some runs like the Nux have, you don't go launching premiere players for "prospects."
Won't happen.

im not saying to trade salo or they will, im saying they are likely trying to put an package together with the 1st pick to land a scoring forward. You cant just offer 4th line wingers if you want to make a deal to help the team . does everybody have a n o trade clause these days????????

Salo
Ohlund
Naslund
Luongo
Kesler (90% sure on this can anyone confirm)
all have no trade clauses, I agree we cant trade all 4th liners and I never said we would Im just saying salo cant be part of the equation even in propsals. he JUST signed and took what I believe to be a discount not to uproot his family.
