Messier Killed The All-Star Games

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Messier Killed The All-Star Games

...they did try to stop the other guy from scoring.

That all seemed to change when Mark Messier started making appearances at All-Star games. Messier openly advised players not to do any serious hitting in the game and he backed it up with threats. There was a memorable incident in an All-Star outing in St. Louis when Buffalo Sabres defenceman Mike Ramsey, an All-Star defensive defenceman and a tenacious competitor, checked Wayne Gretzky into the boards. Messier immediately skated up to him and with the blade of his stick under Ramsey's throat, threatened that if he ever did that again he would pay the price.

and he killed tonight's with his 'commentary' on Versus. All he talked about was how he always wanted to win the truck - must have mentioned it 30 times.

Messier always wanted the truck...but could never win it...he wanted it so bad that Wayne gave Messier the MVP truck that he won in "89 ....even though Wayne now played for the KINGS...Messier never won the All Star Game MVP....I guess he couldn't stand out in a crowd of talented players.....Wayne MVP won it 3 times..oh ya Mario won it 3 times as well....

Good, it's how it should be, did you really want to see Blake take a run at Luongo and ruin the Canucks post season chances this year?

No, running the goaltender is against the rules.

playing a physical defense is not.

We're not asking for full fledge body hitting in the all star game,

atleast let the defensemen CHECK the damn opposing team, instead of letting our goaltender all by himself.

it shows this year, Luongo was ran a couple times by opposing team, because, if your

SCOTT NIEDERMAYER
NICKLAS LIDSTROM
Philippe Boucher
Dion Phaneuf
Kimmo Timonen
Lubomir Visnovsky
Ed Jovanovski

you'd WANT Luongo get injured, thus the Canucks having a lesser chance at fighting for the PLAYOFFS SPOT that everyone is fighting for.

its cliche and its been said a million times. theres no I in TEAM. messier always wanted the goals, the tricks, and the glory, he wanted to truck so to speak. but it doesnt take a 5 goal game to win the truck. i mean look at the MVP this year...1G 4A...you dont need a hat trick to win MVP. if it happens it happens, but you shouldnt go out on the ice looking to turn the trick. thats where he was wrong.
