CANADA WILL OPEN THE 2005 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST SLOVAKIA ON DEC. 25, 2004 IN GRAND FORKS, ND
Canada, which lost 4-3 in the final to the U.S.at the 2004 tournament in Finland, is seeded second in the 2005 tournament, which will be held in Grand Forks, N.D., and Thief River Falls, Minn.
Canada is in Pool B with Finland, Slovakia, Sweden and Germany. TheCzech Republic, Russia, Switzerland, Belarus and the top-seeded Americans are in Pool A.
After opening against the Slovaks,Canada will meet Sweden on Dec. 27, Germany on Dec. 28 and Finland on Dec. 30 with all games at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks.
The defending champion and host U.S.open against Russia on Dec. 25 in Grand Forks. The gold-medal game will be played on Jan. 4 in Grand Forks.
