Doc, even an orange-shitgibbon-worshiping fanboy as yourself must know the difference between children arriving alone at the border, and separating families just for leverage on a ridiculous wall...

Was Obama wanting to build a wall when he did it?
(you bet your sweet bippy he "separated families")
Is Trudeau trying to build a wall?

We get waaay less up here, but we follow a similar policy... in fact most of "the free world" does.
Those parents that break the law by sneaking in (rather than using a legal point of entry) get what they get.
If someone like Reefer and his wife broke the law in some fashion and were arrested, their "family would be separated" as well.
Such is life...

https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/immig ... es-n884856The idea that this is simply a continuation of an Obama-era practice is "preposterous," said Denise Gilman, director of the Immigration Clinic at the University of Texas Law School. "There were occasionally instances where you would find a separated family — maybe like one every six months to a year — and that was usually because there had been some actual individualized concern that there was a trafficking situation or that the parent wasn’t actually the parent."
Once custody concerns were resolved, "there was pretty immediately reunification," Gilman told NBC News. "There were not 2,000 kids in two months — it’s not the same universe," she added.

Last year, 151 minors were detained with their parents in Canadian immigration holding centres. Eleven others were held in custody unaccompanied by an adult.
Take their kids away, that will scare the rest off coming (and maybe force funding for the wall). Nothing more than repulsive child abuse to score points with the tough on immigrants racist base.

Immigrant kids detained in warehouse of humanity
Michael Kiefer, The Arizona Republic Published 5:21 p.m. ET June 18, 2014
The number changes daily, and more than 47,000 migrant kids primarily from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador have entered the country and been caught since Oct. 1
At 11 a.m. MST Wednesday, they briefly opened the center up to the media.
The facility itself is enormous, about the size of a football field.
It has 18-foot-high chain-link fences topped with razor wire dividing the children by age and gender, one area for kids 12 and younger, areas each for boys and girls ages 13 to 15, and still more for boys and girls ages 16 and 17. Nylon tarps tied to the fences provide a modicum of privacy between the groups.
The entire facility has the feel of the livestock areas at a state fair. Inside it smells of feet, sweat and straw.

Parents who break the law tend to get separated from their children, see my Reefer + wife scenario...

Re: US Erection 12 *AND* 16
How many of those minors were accompanied across the border?

The group was part of the recent surge of unaccompanied minors who are streaming into this hot, flat stretch of South Texas, overwhelming Border Patrol facilities and sparking heated debate in Washington over what's causing the crisis and how to handle it.
Some lawmakers, however, argue the youths – and the smuggling rings bringing them in – are exploiting U.S. policy, which allows youngsters from Central American countries other than Mexico to be released to an adult living in the USA while awaiting their court hearing.
Not those entering Canada illegally. In almost all cases they are detained WITH their children.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:21 pm

American laws are different... and btw Lord Trump is merely enforcing existing laws.Island Nucklehead wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:26 pm Not those entering Canada illegally. In almost all cases they are detained WITH their children.
I was responding to Corn, he said "separating families"
- under Obama they often let the moms remain with the kids, but not the dads = "separating families"
"almost all cases" - So Canada does it in some cases.
America's immigration problems are a bazillion times worse than those of Canada...

Apparently (from in the CBC article you quoted) 6% of those youth detained in Canada are held unaccompanied. Do you think the ratio is similar to the US? You should compare apples to apples, not apples to (son-of orange-haired) Orangutans.

Article also says "Border agents caught almost 25,000 unaccompanied minors in fiscal year 2013".Island Nucklehead wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:26 pm (linked through your article) https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... /10798643/
The group was part of the recent surge of unaccompanied minors
(the year before the surge)
Yes it surged to 47,000 the next fiscal year, but the more-usual 25,000 is still a lot of kids held in detention, separated from their parents
... under Obama.

Difficult to separate children from their parents if the child arrives without the parents.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:50 pmArticle also says "Border agents caught almost 25,000 unaccompanied minors in fiscal year 2013".Island Nucklehead wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:26 pm (linked through your article) https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... /10798643/

Considering how much he admires the North Korean dictator, who apart from running death camps also has had several family members executed, it doesn't seem far fetched.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 1:13 pmThat's weird, Per was implying gas chambers were the next step...

And he has expressed sympathy for nazis, claiming that there are good people among them.

But it's nice that he backed down. I mean, being criticized by the UN, the EU, leading democrats and republicans, the pope, most of the media - that's pretty much business as usual for him, but when not only Laura Bush, but also Melania and Ivanka (who he would date if she wasn't his daughter*) turned against him, he finally caved.
Also, the separation was never required by law. It was just a policy decision, which is why he himself could stop it without any need for congress to do anything.
