SL, they just gotta pull the ol' LA Kings trick, get him addicted to pain killers, get him to cross the Canadian border with some oxy, terminate contract = extremely reduced cap recapture penalty.
Mike Richards' Recapture Penalty.... was not reduced.

I genuinely enjoyed your description of the recapture monster btw.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say about Richards case is this..
The Kings Terminated Richards' Contract

Earlier this summer, the Kings terminated the contract of the forward after the team learned he had been arrested for the unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Richards had five years and $22 million remaining on his deal, which translated to a $5.75 million cap hit over each of the next five years.

Initially, the Kings had decided to buy out Richards. That would have resulted in a fluctuating cap hit until 2024-25, peaking in 2018 and 2019 at $4.2 million.

However, by terminating his deal, the Kings would enjoy substantial cap relief as the team would only be on the hook for a cap recapture penalty of $1.32 million over each of the next five years. And of course, the team won't have to pay Richards two-thirds of his salary, which amounts to $14.5 million.

But alas we have to wait for the final decision.

Ahh... I see.

True... in the Richards' case, the Buyout Monster is scarier than the Recapture Monster. Image

No kidding, that type of deal is not what a team rebuilding does, unless they get a high draft pick back.
Lol wasn't Skyo jumping up and down for the Canucks to acquire Zajac last year ?

He is still on a horribly bloated contract regardless of whether Bonino was here or not . Then again Elmer gave Sutter a huge contract anyways so I guess it all worked out . :(

Hawks have placed Bickell on waivers. I guess they couldn't find a trade partner without taking salary back. Wonder if anyone takes him for free. If they demote him they only save $900K on their cap.

Rumour was they were talking trade with the Oilers, but it fell apart.

I wonder if Chiarelli pulls a total dick-move and claims him for nothing off of waivers now.....Edmonton could take his $4M at still come under the cap by $200K. If Ference is going to be on the way out, they would have a nice cushion still to add through the season if they wanted to.

Heard that too for Nikita Nikitin, and now he's on waivers. http://thehockeywriters.com/oilers-plac ... ign=buffer

Ya, for it was for Nikitin but Hawks couldn't take salary back. Wonder if Oilers pluck Bicknell now or if they have internal cap concerns. I actually think Bicknell would be a good addition for them but his term is too long.
The only HW the Canucks need

No rage over here yet concerning the extension Lack signed today? He will make less in the next three seasons as Miller will make this season.

Has Doc demanded a gag order?
