What I'm hearing....

A few players are willing do consider 1 year deals. Markstrom is not one of them. None of the agents want 1 year deals, no surprise.

What I find surprising, perhaps I shouldn't, is that Benning doesn't want 1 year deals. He wants to lock players up for a reasonable cap and term and move forward. He is cognizant of the expansion draft but is adamant he won't manage around it but rather through it. Whatever that means.

Well, I think there is some logic to it. The Crackheads get to pick one player, but just one. In any given situation any player could have a career ending injury, or retire for personal reasons,or whatever.

It’s hard to know what Seattle will settle for, as it is an intricate scheme based on what players are available from other teams. I mean, if there are two better goalies available than Demko, they may pass on him, even if he is not protected.

I would also not overthink the situation. Build the team as good and strong as possible. Protect your key players. One of the unprotected players will get stolen, but we can’t know which one, and maybe shouldn’t spend so much time obsessing over it.

Rumors also that Canucks are trying to sign Toffoli, Markstrom and Tanev.

Although no direct tweet, Sportsnet 650 says that Elliotte Friedman reports the Canucks are looking to sign all 3 of Tanev, Toffoli and Markstrom.

The team doesn't have to be cap compliant for quite a while.
