Post by JamesOwnzSam11 »

In your guys opinions of course.

I like the Canucks I do, I wouldn't say i'm a diehard but I cheer for the Canucks because I've lived in Vancouver almost all my life ( I won't state what my first team was but it isn't the Rangers or Oilers)

Anyways I always get sh*t from friends for having this Mark Messier poster ( He is my favorite player after all..) saying I can't be a Canucks fan if I like him.

What do you guys think?

Hmmmn.

Let me put it this way . . .

Do you think they'd let you into al-Qaeda if you had a poster of Golda Meir on your wall?

Sounds like you have smart friends. Sorry to hear you're not one of us. The New York Rangers website can be found at:

http://www.nyrangers.com

There you'll find all the information you need to be a Rangers fan. I'm sure there are some Rangers fan boards that you'll like as well. Sorry to hear that you're not part of the club. Hope you enjoy chatting with your Rangers buddies about what a great guy Messier was.

Good luck and don't let the door smack your butt on the way out.

I came in to say something really witty, and just a tad snarky.
however, that comment simply cannot be topped.

Hated him as an Oiler
Hated him as a Ranger
Hated him as a Canuck
Hated him as Ranger again
Hated him as a Lays Chips Spokesman
Hate him now that he is retired

...and I'm sure I'll hate him when he's dead.

I wouldn't say I love the guy, but I do believe he got something of a bad rap during his time in Vancouver. It's not his fault that Canuck management stupidly believed that a then 36 year old player would be able to carry the club, and it is also not his fault that management was so delusional as to believe we were only one player away. The Canucks offered him an eye popping contract, and he signed it.

When he was here, there were often nights when he was our best forward. Granted, that wasn't hard on a team that featured such luminaries as Harry York and Darby Hendrickson, so that wasn't very hard, but nonetheless Messier was second in team scoring twice, and third once. The problem was that he was no longer a number one centre by that time, but the Canucks were paying him like one. Therefore, they played him like one. During those years, Messier would have been a tremendous second line/faceoff specialist asset on a contender like Colorado or Jersey, but he was horribly miscast on a team that needed a rebuild and youth movement.

Doesn't help he was injured a lot in 98-99 and 99-00 ( we make the playoffs if he didn't miss 16 games that season.....even with Potvin)

He also put up 67 points in his first season back with the Rangers.....

Messier sucks. Is he actually still alive? I'm fairly convinced he's a closet homosexual.

a) no he wasn't. he got top line minutes, and ALWAYS first unit powerplay time. much like his second sting with thr Rangers, he'd get the vast majority of his points on the powerplay. His most famous powerplay move was the patented flip back pass accross the middle to turn the puck over .

b) the year he came we had: Bure, Mogilny, Naslund, Bertuzzi, Lumme, Ohlund, Hedican

Bure yes...though his heart wasn't in it and he didn't care anymore.

Moginly- Biggest floater ever had the one great season here, then a decent with 33 goals then the rest he didn't break 20...

Ohlund- was a rookie

Naslund- was still really young...23 or so at the time? It's because of Messier that he is hte player he is now and Naslund has said that.

Bertuzzi- came the year after didn't he?

I hate Messier for his help in dismantling the Canucks. He broke up a fun team to watch in a short period of time. Mogilny on the other hand...I liked him for the most part. He was a floater at the end of his time here but he was surrounded with anvils. He just needed a top line center. His 55 G year he was with Ronning. Then the Canucks dumped Ronning & the G's for Molginy dropped. Strange times were about to happen to the 96-00 Canucks !
