EP might be getting Marner Money soon and Hughes is like to command 7-8 Million on a long-term second contract. Even with Loui, Sutter, Schaller, etc. gone, you want to keep your cap for the young guys. Better to get or trade for value players like JT "Overpayment" Miller.
You don't want to become top-heavy with all these big contracts at the top like the Leaves. I say fuggedaboutit.
The Stars CEO might be ready to make some more comments on behalf of the owner soon if their team continue to disappoint. Nill will be gone as GM. I wonder if they aren't already looking at trade scenarios with Benn or maybe even Seguin?

On the other hand we have this year and next to figure out the cap while Petey and Hughes are on their ELC.Hank wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 11:12 am EP might be getting Marner Money soon and Hughes is like to command 7-8 Million on a long-term second contract. 2021-22 when Petey and Hughes need new contracts:
OUT: (eriksson/JV/Stech/prospect trade with dallas), ufa's Edler 6m, Sutter 4.375m, Pearson 3.75m, Marky say 5m.
Petey 10-11m
Benn 9.5 (4 years)
Boeser 5.875 (for one season then $8M-$8.5M)
Horvat 5.5
Miller 5.25
Gaud (bridge)
Ferland 3.75
Beags 3
Podkolzin elc
Hoglander elc
Hughes 7.5
Myers 6
Benn (2m extension to play with bro)
Tryamkin/Woo/OJ?
DEMKO $4M?
The only real concern is in 2021 is Podkolzin but he's got 3 years of ELC after an entry slide or two.
So it can work if we trade for ol Benn.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

So it can work if we trade for ol Benn.
If Demko is our goalie it means he's proven himself to be the elite guy we hope he is. He will be 26 years old and entering goalie prime years. So he is either making backup chump change or he's getting big dollars, and Benning would be stupid not to pay big and with term for an elite goalie that will be under contract from 26 to 33 or so years of age.....
Benn $9.5M - Pettersson $10M - Boeser $5.875M
Miller $5.25M - Horvat $5.5M - Ferland $3.75M
Roussel $3M - Gaudette $3M - ______________
____________ - Beagle $3M - ______________
Hughes $7.5M - Myers $6M
___________ - ___________
Benn $2.5M - Woo $891K
Demko $7.5M
DiPietro $811K
Luongo Recapture $3M
Total Cap: $76.36M
The cap MIGHT be up to $86M if we're lucky.
That leaves $10M for 5 regulars and 2 or 3 spares. Considering that two of those regulars have to be top-4 blueliners who will cost us a minimum of $4M each.....ummmm......so that would mean our cap is now $84.36M and we still need 5 or 6 guys. Even if they all take league minimum it can't be done. So.....not happening.
Obviously this is based on a cap ceiling of $86M, which it may or may not be.

I think you could throw tyramkin on the second pairing in the 3 million range, and possibly a guy like joulevi. The other 3 spots could be MacEwen, hoglander, madden, Lind, jasek, motte all of whom would make close to league minimum.Mëds wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 1:24 pmSKYO, I don't think you're really thinking it through.SKYO wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 12:15 pmOn the other hand we have this year and next to figure out the cap while Petey and Hughes are on their ELC.Hank wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 11:12 am EP might be getting Marner Money soon and Hughes is like to command 7-8 Million on a long-term second contract. Just say no to any high priced guy in his 30's.
This team is still another year or 2 from being serious contenders, do not hamper that by some guy not producing to his cap hit.

Because there is a brief window when your superstars are on entry level contracts...otherwise see toronto for results of waiting to build for a deep run
If you need air...call it in
Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 19-20 Sponsored by SKYO
As soon as we acquired Jordie, figured it would only be a matter of time until the "Let's get bro Jamie" began.
There is as much chance of this happening at this juncture in time as there was in uniting all three Subban bros when we had Jordan.
Maybe that's overstating a bit. (insert smiley for one raised eyebrow).

Not saying to wait for others to develop, I am saying get the right UFA that fits within the cap. Benn will make $9.5M until 2025, just do not think getting him now will make the team a SC contender. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 2:18 pmBecause there is a brief window when your superstars are on entry level contracts...otherwise see toronto for results of waiting to build for a deep run

Even at $85M it can conceivably work:Mëds wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 1:24 pmIf Demko is our goalie it means he's proven himself to be the elite guy we hope he is.

cap space $166K lol with Luongo's 3M recapture.
Lu's recapture is conveniently gone when Boeser needs a raise.
Demko I'd say would get a Corey Crawford or Braden Holtby $6M AAV contract.
When Horvat needs a new contract, Ferland and Miller will be UFA's.
Podkolzin could get a bridge contract in the year 2024.
And my hunch is Roussel will be snapped up by Seattle, seems like a perfect guy to add to a expansion team for experience/work ethic blah blah.
Just like my prediction of Sbisa getting taken by Vegas.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Wonder whether is to make room for a rookie defenseman or loading up with even more size on the backend.TSN Radio Vancouver
@TSN1040
@TSNBobMcKenzie tells @HalfordTSN @JasonBroughTSN he's heard some low rumblings around Troy Stecher, but also says the #Canucks would present Stecher as a top-four guy, while a potential buying team would say Stecher is bottom-pair

That's what McKenzie listens for when rubbing his belly like a crystal ball.
"What's that belly? Stecher on the move you say?"

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

That's why the team traded for Miller, rather than going for $9.5 Benn. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 2:18 pmBecause there is a brief window when your superstars are on entry level contracts...otherwise see toronto for results of waiting to build for a deep run
Over the next 5 years, Miller will have more points than Benn, book it!
