I'm sorry but that was an absolute shit change by Bo's line.
Wow. Smith rips the stick out of Pearson's hands in front of the refs and they score. What a joke.
Smith is such a dick that every time he gets lit up, I'm delirious.

Did Smith grab Pearson's stick? Should that not be a penalty?

One game is a tad early to claim validation or invalidation of the summer moves....
[Edit: I take it back. This loss certainly shows that all of the summer moves were fruitless and Benning's management sucks.... ]

It's really not considering Miller and Pearson's resumes over a Goldobin or even Baertschi. Not to mention Myers and Benn over Hutton or Gudbranson.DonCherry4PM wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 9:33 pmOne game is a tad early to claim validation or invalidation of the summer moves....
Their games were validated long ago.
Can you invalidate that the D isn't already miles better?

meh
Just game 1 of the season

Hughes isn't looking out of place on the point in these last few minutes

PP puck movement is still too slow.
Refs suck. The actual non call leads to a goal the other way.
Nothing new to see here.
Hughes definitely can wheel.
Sucks to lose to the Oilers.

The "whining" re. Miller was whether too much was given in the trade. I don't recall anyone stating that Miller was not an improvement in the top 6.Hank wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 9:36 pmIt's really not considering Miller and Pearson's resumes over a Goldobin or even Baertschi. Did anyone say that the D wasn't better? I think the "whining" re. Myers had more to do with the contract rather than anyone saying he wasn't an improvement over the previous D.

A lot of the game just seemed like lines and players were out of sync. A lot of missed passes, passes in skates, guys not reading off each other well. Most of this should be improved after a few more games and some practice. As others have noted, with the substantial turnover it will take some time for players to develop chemistry.
Still hard to lose a 4 pointer to the Oil.
Oh well, 81 games left to make up for it.

Always sucks to lose, but this was really just a glorified exhibition game as the lines and chemistry get established. A lot of new faces in key spots.
Markstrom not looking like he did at the start of the last season is a big plus.
Hughes showing the promise we're expecting.
The new guys starting find their roles.
HPP* still looking lost
Petey's not getting much room, but he's smart enough to adjust - he still had some great chances.
*highest paid player

Re: GDT: Canucks @ oiler - 7pm- SN-P -Oct 2
Good game overall. I thought we started off a bit slow, but got better as the game went on. Had a chance to win it, but couldn't find a way to find the W. Difference was their big guns brought the O, but our big guys did not. Man, Draisetl and our old buddy Kassiassian was a handful for us all nite. Kass using his big frame to shield the puck with his head up looking for Draisetl or whoever, looking a bit like Jagr out there.
I thought Hughes was weak on the McJesus goal. He just put his stick there and stopped skating against one of the best/fastest players out there. Not sure if Greener played that matchup on purpose.

A few thoughts....
* Boeser made a couple of great plays on defense against McDavid. Anticipated the play movement and won body position. Small things done unusually well (for him) should be noticed.
* Miller was terrific down low in the cycle. Pearson was trigger man. The Horvat line was the best line tonight, and I can’t remember Bo except for that great centering pass. I think Miller was the player of the game.
* Sutter made a lazy piece of shit play to lead to the third goal. He was at the end of his shift and took the least tiring route. If he were a rookie....
* Eriksson was the best of the bottom 6. Simply by not being an asshat. Which says a lot about the other 5. Okay that’s not totally fair. Beagle was Beagle and showed up on the PK, in the dot, and blocking shots in the d-zone.
* Hughes was manhandled by Draisitl a few times. I thought Hughes was American, not French. He and Tanev also seemed to miscommunicate on the McDavid goal. But otherwise, lots of special stuff from 43. Fun to watch.
* Ferland fought the puck tonight. Not worried about it.
* Not worried about Pettersson either. A ton of chances, but he forgot to measure his sights before the game. Good to see him take shots.
* We all know who the worst player was tonight, right?
* Stecher...man, those passes have to stop.
