Don't read too much on Rafferty other than he is a RHS on D. But Kielly's reviews have him as a potential starter down the road, with the right development. Just think he and Dipietro can play three years in Utica before they need waivers, securing our goalie depth for awhile. If Kielly is anything like his reviews Benning has struck gold in net. Time will tell.

Re: 2019 UFA
Canucks throughout its history for UFA's have done best signing a 2nd/3rd line winger on a reasonable deal, or a defensive dmen on reasonable deals.
Notables: Anson Carter, Pavol Demitra, M. Samuelsson, Willie Mitchell, Dan Hamhuis, A. Cassels, Tanev, Vrbata, Burrows.
Done horrendous overspending on older all-stars: Messier, Sundin was alright & now Eriksson.
Albeit they have never successfully signed a Panarin or Erik Karlsson before, still in their prime & superstar level, came close to Scott Niedermayer once, but the Ducks masterfully got his brother first.
This yrs crop of 2nd/3rd line wingers are Dzingel, Ferland, Nyquist, Eberle if you can get one of them on a reasonable deal it would bode well for the franchise.

Anaheim signed Rob Neidermayer 2 years before Scott became UFA. They were also signed by different GM's. There was nothing "masterful" about it.SKYO wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 11:55 am Canucks throughout its history for UFA's have done best signing a 2nd/3rd line winger on a reasonable deal, or a defensive dmen on reasonable deals.

Anyways IMAGINE S. Niedermayer playing behind West Coast Express and the Sedins back in 2006 onwards? shit would be lit.Scott Niedermayer has left the New Jersey Devils to play with his brother on the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Niedermayer, the NHL's top defenseman in the 2003-04 season, agreed to a four-year, $27 million deal Thursday that will take him across the country and make him a teammate of his brother Rob.
"I think it was a big factor," Niedermayer's agent Kevin Epp said. "Playing with Rob, the West Coast, closer to family. A little bit of everything."
Epp said Niedermayer picked the Ducks over the Devils on Wednesday afternoon, despite New Jersey offering over $1 million more per season and the willingness to add a fifth year to the deal.
Rob Niedermayer, who was a restricted free agent, also agreed to a four-year deal with Anaheim on Thursday that will pay him $8 million.
"Brian really sold him on what he's prepared to do and trying to build Anaheim into a Stanley Cup contender," Epp said.
Both brothers live in British Columbia.

Why I'm still voting for going full-court press into signing Karlsson, absolute rarity these types of dmen become available.
EK playing behind Petey, Boeser, Horvat, JV, Gaud +++

Re: 2019 UFA
I'm warming up to the EK idea but it's really difficult for me not to consider an elite winger;
https://tipofthetower.com/2019/03/16/bu ... extension/
Have always liked Skinner and if he doesn't come to terms in scenic buffalo, well.
The bidding will be too high/stupid high. Just that then 2 scoring lines come to fruition, wham-bam th
Gee whiz; with an unlimited cap, one could really build a good team.

Re: 2019 UFA
Well if we keep adding QB dmen prospects, one of them should turn out & then the team can spend some bucks on a top6 scoring forward.
Another QB dman prospect should be available Aug 15, Chase Priskie "a right shot, good two-way defenseman that can skate and quarterback a powerplay." Shoots a ton of shots on net, lead the league at one point with powerplay goals as a junior, exact type of dman the Canucks need to compliment Quinn Hughes superb playmaking ability.
Current Capitals draftee, but Priskie has informed them he'll be turning to free agency.

2018/19 NCAA 36gp 17g, 22a, 39pts.

I'd say the Canucks have a better chance getting Priskie than Fox who seems NY bound.

Priskie also has a small BC connection, he has played one season with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the BCHL prior to joining the NCAA.. Chase Priskie | SR | Quinnipiac University
6'0, 192lbs, right shot.
3rd Round, 77th overall in 2016 | Washington Capitals
2018-19 Season: 17 GP, 12 G, 9 A, 21 pts.
Priskie has been the definition of a team captain for the Bobcats after earning the honor as a junior.
“I know [Priskie] gets a lot of accolades for his offense, which he should,” coach Rand Pecknold told College Hockey News’ Nathan Pullen. “But he’s really worked at rounding out his game and becoming a 200-foot player.”
Priskie’s five game-winning goals leads the NCAA and he’s been a major part of Quinnipiac’s 14-3 record. His entry-level contract is on the horizon for the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals.

Re: 2019 UFA
A thought on Panarin based on Cherry's comment in another thread.....
He's not going to be influenced by how far he goes in the playoffs this year. It will be cap and term from the right city that is his deciding factor. He strikes me as the kind of guy that would sign with a team that has no chance of making the playoffs if it meant him making an extra $750K x 7 years.
Apparently Vancouver is the only Canadian city he hasn't ruled out. Based on what he's saying I'd say his preferences would be Anaheim, LA, San Jose, Vegas, Florida, Tampa, New York, and maybe even Arizona (Phoenix is a pretty happening big city and they are building a competitive team there finally), and Vancouver as previously mentioned. Of those teams the only ones that could probably afford to fit him in under the cap are Arizona, Florida, and Vancouver. San Jose could be a dark horse there if Karlsson walks and they decided to make a pitch for a young star by moving on from their old Joe's. The rest are pretty cap strapped if you are looking at adding a guy who will be asking for $9+M.
Of all of those teams I think only Arizona, Florida, San Jose, and Vancouver, will be throwing the huge dollars at Karlsson should he be available. The rest either can't afford it, or would prefer to add some firepower up front.

He was actually good enough to be drafted when eligible rather than passed over twice by every team in the NHL.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 5:51 pmIf they land him would that be like a free 3rd pick?SKYO wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 3:19 pm Well if we keep adding QB dmen prospects, one of them should turn out & then the team can spend some bucks on a top6 scoring forward.
