If Crawford gets fired, Who should be the next Coach?

Post by Rising Sun Canuck »

No one really knows what Nonis will do with our coaching staff this upcoming year. Will crawford stay?, or will we get a new coach?

Say Crawford does get the Axe, which possible replacement would you want to take over the reins and why?

The options are:

Pat Quinn: Do we dare give the old Irishmen another chance?
Andy Murray: Former Team Canada Coach and is looking for a Job after his LA canning.
Duane Sutter: Will he leave Alberta, and join his brothers in the NHL coaching fraternity. Vancouver is close to Calgary.
Ted Nolan: His son is in our system and he is coaching Bourdon right now. He has had success where ever he has gone. Moncton is going to the Memorial Cup this year.
Don Hay: Why not, he has NHL coaching experience and he has turned the Giants around.
Mike Johnston: He has been an solid assistant for the past few seasons and been rumored for head coaching jobs around the NHL.
Stan Smyl: Does the steamer go behind the bench for the team that retired his number?

If you think of any others let me know and i will add them to the poll. Who's your pick?

Kevin Constantine or Dave Lewis.

That's only because they're hosting it, though.

True, but Moncton is in the semi's in The Q against the Gatineau Olympiques.

I would love to add Constantine or Lewis, but i can't seem to edit the poll. Any ideas?

Moncton also had the top record in the league in the regular season, Nolan is definitely a great coach, he would be my top pick.

I think you're missing the obvious choice... Alain Vigneaut (that's probably spelled horribly wrong) from the Manitoba Moose.

I suspect he was given the Moose job in anticipation of one day replacing Crawford.
I think its a given that he's our next coach.

Is there a reason you have Duane and not Brent Sutter? He'd be my number one choice, then Andy Murray, then Alain Vigneault, so my vote ended up going to Murray, but my other two choices aren't even listed.

Hay has got fired from every Pro team that he coached because they all gae up on him. About 7-8 years ago when Bonner and Hay were running the Tri city francise they traaded away all their 16 year old to make a run in the playoffs. They had Scott Gomez, Brad Ference, Stephen Peat and alot more and they lost in the first round. The team gave up on him for all the yelling.

Sooner or later the Giants will give up on him also.

Rising Sun: you can start a new poll and ask a moderator to lock or delete this one.

And yes, one of my conditions for Lewis joining is that the 'stache has to go.

I like Ted Nolan, but what style does he advocate? I don't think the Canucks style, although he is a magnificent coach. I can see Quinn as President maybe (bug maybe), but not as coach. My money's on Vigneaueauueuaueelt.

There won't be a "Vancouver" style if there's a new coach, what I mean is the coach will probably come in and implement his own style, so it doesn't really matter if the coach matches the "Canucks" style of play. I think Andy Murray is the only coach I like in that list. Nolan wouldn't be bad, but it just makes me wonder what he did to be put in exile for this long. I feel like it's something bigger than going over his GM's head, that or Muckler really black balled him good.

I agree, Andy Murray is intriguing as coach for the Canucks and is the only one on that list even remotely a possibility for the position, assuming Nonis grabs a brain and fires Crawford, i really beleive that there's a trend now in the NHL and has been the last few years to develop and groom your next head coach at the farm team level. That being said, you have Paul Maurice getting set to move into the head coaching position in TO and i really beleive the Canucks are looking real close at the possibility of moving Alain Vaignault up from Manitoba as soon as they see fit. Personally, i see Crawford one more year here in Vancouver because of his contract and Vaignault takes over as coach next year barring a stanley cup final appearance next june. Take it to the bank.

Lots of people are saying, as "The Specialist" suggests, that we should expect...
Crawford one more year here in Vancouver because of his contract
But, correct me if I am wrong, Vancouver only has to pay him if he doesn't get picked up by someone else. It's true that even if he's fired as coach of the Canucks, he would still be under contract to this team, but presumably if another team wanted to hire him then Crow and Nonis would mutually agree to part ways. I'm sure this has happened before.

I think Crawford would be VERY attractive to a bunch of other teams, including the Kings. The problem with Crow isn't that he's a bad coach, it's that he's no longer the right fit for the 'Nucks.

I say pitch him overboard, and let L.A. or someone else grab him while the grabbing's good. Then we don't have to pay his salary. Win-win.

Kevin Constantine would be a good choice. Alain Vigneault would be another one.
