The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

I don't know much about this guy but one of the biggest issues is the stigma around mental illnesses. Most can be treated very effectively but people are still hesitant to even get diagnosed because of how others will then view them, along with the consequences that come after being treated for a mental illness.

So most of the time a mental illness will go undiagnosed, which is then impossible to track even in background checks.

Even some extremely treatable illnesses like mild depression have unfortunate consequences when you get diagnosed and treated. My eldest stepdaughter was diagnosed with situational depression and was treated because she wanted the help. The problem now, she doesn't qualify for life insurance! That devastated her because she's lost family members very young and knows my situation and doesn't want to leave her husband in financial difficulty should something happen to her.

Obviously this guy had some issues, and people he knew even admitted they thought something was wrong with him. But unless he's been diagnosed and treated there is no way for anyone to know!

Check the chart showing countries that executed people in 2016:

China - not a shining beacon of democracy
Iran - not a shining beacon of democracy
Saudi Arabia - not a shining beacon of democracy
Iraq - not a shining beacon of democracy
Pakistan - not a shining beacon of democracy
Egypt - not a shining beacon of democracy
USA - mmmmm... I don't know... decent, I guess
Somalia - not a shining beacon of democracy
Bangladesh - not a shining beacon of democracy
Malaysia - not a shining beacon of democracy
Afghanistan - not a shining beacon of democracy
Belarus - not a shining beacon of democracy
Indonesia - not a shining beacon of democracy
Singapore - not a shining beacon of democracy
Japan - mmmmm... I don't know... decent, I guess
Nigeria - not a shining beacon of democracy
Palestine - not a shining beacon of democracy
Sudan - not a shining beacon of democracy
Botswana - mmmmm... I don't know... decent, I guess
Taiwan - not a shining beacon of democracy
North Korea - not a shining beacon of democracy
South Sudan - not a shining beacon of democracy
Vietnam - not a shining beacon of democracy
:hmmm:

None of the above qualify as full democracies according to The Economist's democracy index. Japan, Botswana and the USA come close, but most of the countries on this list are dictatorships, or to borrow an expression from President Donald Trump, s--t h--e countries. No real democracy kills its own citizens.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

The Economist. Oh yeah, "intelligence unit".

Maybe there is something to be gained by hearing this individual out.
After all, that's what he wants.

::LIST::

None of the above qualify as full democracies according to The Economist's democracy index. No real democracy kills its own citizens.

::The Economist's Democracy Index::
You say that America and those other countries are not civilized because they have the death penalty.

Then you try to prove they are not civilized by showing a liberal (biased) democracy index? :eh:

One might point out here that most of the great civilizations of history were not democratic.

(and hey, most of them had the death penalty)

One might point out that capital punishment =/= undemocratic =/= uncivilized.

(these three things are unrelated, no offence but you sound like an indoctrinated cultist they way you interchange them)

You are running with an anti-capital-punishment doctrine which has caused flawed logic (and circular reasoning).

You chose The Economist's Democracy Index because it shares your view/bias.

"Democracy" can be defined in many ways and I'd say The Economist is running with what many would call "Social Democracy".

For example, the fact a country employs capital punishment would be enough to push a country here from .799 Flawed to .80 Full.

(and for all we know, perhaps to .90)

So yeah, there is irony here, and much more.

You're using a source that penalizes level-of-democracy due to CP... to try to prove CP is not civilized! :wow:

BTW Freedom House measures democracy differently:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_in_the_World

Using their definitions/factors, USA is right up there with all the other top countries in level-of-democracy.

Anyway, employing capital punishment does not make a country less civilized... unless one holds that particular bias.

(one such as yourself or The Economist)

BTW The Economist concludes that less than 5% of the world’s population currently lives in a “full democracy”

... and that 89 countries experienced a decline in their total score over the last year, while only 27 saw an improvement.

A lot of this has to do with less trust in the electoral process around the world.

(Norwegians must have their collective head up their collective butt)

Lol if only it were so simple!

There are different kinds of "killing".

Were the Allied soldiers of WWII guilty of murder when they killed German soldiers in battle?

Also, some believe locking someone up for life in a cage with violent thugs and sodomists

… is more uncivilized than capital punishment.

And then some, like you, believe capital punishment is more uncivilized than dat dere.

So glad that we live in good ole civilized North America where we are entitled to our opinions!

Nah...

https://www.abbynews.com/national-news/ ... pert-says/
Mubin Shaikh, an expert on counterterrorism, says he thinks a no rental list would be a reactive measure that would have minimal impact.

If there are restrictions on rentals, people can still borrow or steal vehicles, he notes.

“A criminal will try to take whatever they can, however they can,” he says.

“Will it deter the determined attacker? Probably not.”

“At the end of the day, it’s impossible (to prevent). We live in an open society and vehicles are in our proximity all the time. That’s normal city life.”
Also, I echo what Aaron said...

Actually, he wanted the cop to shoot him. He kept begging the cop to shoot him in the head. I think this was an attempted "suicide by cop".

Too bad he was so demented and twisted he had to run down a bunch of people first. Seems he has written some sort of declaration about women turning him down and making him an "incel". That's 4chan talk, right? :eh:
