Was wondering what to do with Eriksson as he's underperforming, thinking about swapping him for another bad contract like Lucic or Seabrook as his NMC morphs into a NTC July 1st I think.

But imho I think the team should just wait and see how he does with Pettersson and Dahlen etc.

Because all I know is Green and Newell Brown should start watching clips of when Eriksson was scoring mad powerplay goals around the net with the Bruins scoring 30g,33a with 10 ppg, 2 shg, 5 gwg, 19:28 TOI 184 shots in his final season there.

Eriksson' bread and butter is playing around the net, all the coaches have to do is plan the x's and o's with Loui Eriksson around the net, as he has a long reach combined with his height he's built to be placed in front of the net, #21 just isn't being used properly by the inexperienced Travis Green yet.

Here's hoping next season with some talented youth joining the team maybe that'll help spark him again, but the coaches have to experiment with the big fella especially placing LE around the net.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Eriksson has been misused since day 1. Eriksson is not a playmaker but he has good hands around the net for tipping and burying the rebounds. He should be on the first powerplay unit standing in front of the net instead of Bo.

Any guesses? Did Bettman finally accept our bribe and we'll have a real shot in the lottery?

r but he has good hands around the net for tipping and burying the rebounds. He should be on the first powerplay unit standing in front of the net instead of Bo.
On day 1 Eriksson put the puck into his own empty net with a delayed penalty coming against Calgary.

It's been down hill since. He was initially put with the Sedins.....hardly a playmaker's role considering they do all of that leg work.

In all honesty, Loui hasn't been a terrible player for us. He's been streaky in his production, and while that has been limited to date, he's having a better year this year than last. The problem with Eriksson is that he's been a very effective 3rd line and special teams player, but he's being paid like your average first line winger. If Eriksson was making $4M he wouldn't be drawing all of this negative attention.

Agreed Jovocop, pretty simple coaching to use Eriksson effectively to have him setup shop in & around the net.

The thing with the Sedins is they love to cycle along the boards and pop-up around the net for a quick one timer or slap passes, it's more of a chess game, slowing it down to their pace and they obviously love to cycle with each other - it takes a special breed to be the triplet & typically it's a dude who has some grit in their game ala Carter & Burrows.

While Eriksson prefers the tic - tac - toe plays, utilizing a strong setup from the blueline to the boards to eventual one timer by Eriksson - or by him banging in a quick goal in & around the net, but it takes a couple playmakers to set that up.
With the Bruins he had Krejci, Bergeron/Marchand at times, Spooner, Krug all great passers from all over the offensive zone, they could set up from all over the ice, with Eriksson setup around the goal line.

Unfortunately, Eriksson was a top 6 player for the Bruins and the Stars before he joined the Canucks.

Eriksson's average ice time was 18:10 in the 7 seasons with the Stars. If you take out the first two years, his average ice time was 20:00. The three seasons with the Bruins, his ice time was increased from 16:32 to 19:29 in the final year, an average of 18:10. In Vancouver, his average ice time has been 17:28 so far. Besides ice time, the quality of the linemates is also a problem. Instead of playing with quality top 6 forwards, Eriksson has been killing penalties and playing on the 3rd or 4th line most of the times.

The Sedins are re-signed to matching one-year contracts deals and the canucks open the season with a 20 game Swedish tour. Per is ecstatic.

These guys think it's pretty obvious E.Kane will sign here in the offseason. Fingers crossed. *hehe* MG got a free star player in his prime when Hammer wanted to play in his hometown/province. I guess 2 actually cause the Sharks gave him Hoffer in a salary dump as well. It'd be nice if JB + Trev can get a break with a big fish free agent signing handed to them and a draft lottery win. :D

They also think the Sedins will return.

Contract extension for Biega. I really like the guy as a 6/7 dman and I expect it will be inexpensive, so good for him. Saw him walking with his wife and young baby last week in downtown Van, not a very big guy at all but plays hard.

So with him we have:

Edler (NMC)
Tanev
Guddy
Biega
MDZ

All under contract for next year, with Stecher and Pouliot both RFAs and I assume they will be re-signed.

They can't bring back the same D that has been well below average this year, can they? Assuming Tanev comes back in a couple of weeks and plays well until the end of the season it just makes so much sense to trade him and get some good future assets in return.

He's injury insurance and depth. Decent #7 in a pinch, and I'd rather have him in the press box than a kid who could use the ice time either in Vancouver or Utica.

Benning keeping his tweeners, but I can live with this one until the blueline prospect pipeline gets better.

I like the Biega signing - one of the few Canucks who plays above his height and weight. I think he has been used by the Canucks once or twice as a 4th liner; however, I can't recall how he did. For a smaller defenceman with grit and great checking ability, I wonder whether it would be useful to the Canucks to convert him to a 4th liner (and whether Biega would get into the line-up more as a forward).
